Fender FSR Pbass

I just got one of these Saturday from the Guitar Center on Cobb Parkway in Marietta, GA. It came with a tortoise shell guard instead of the white one shown in the MF ad. It was on sale for $349.00. I carried it to a blues rock rehearsal yesterday and had a great time playing it. The neck is really nice, the edges feel broken in and the frets are good, no sharp ends and level. The overall construction is much nicer than the Standard Jazz and Standard Jazz V that came through my hands back in the late 90's. I like the tone a lot too, the one that I have sounds very full and sweet. I played it against a Peavey Zodiac DE Scorpio and much preferred the sound and feel of the Mexi-Fender over that of the Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound pickup equipped Chinese Peavey. The Peavey probably has the edge in construction over the Fender, but I found the Fender a lot more pleasant to play. I also dig the vintage style vibe the tort guard gives the ash body, but I'm pretty certain that a nicer Gotoh bridge is going to be replacing the bent tin bridge on this bass.

How does this differ from the regular ole MIM Fender Precision?

far as i can tell the body is ash, instead of alder. My MIJ 75 Jazz reissue is ash, and that is why I am drawn to it.

The big question is how hard are the FSR to get? Do they only make a limited run?

The FSRs aren't regularly catalogued items from Fender, but at least the Jazz versions must be plentiful. I saw two FSR Jazzes at Guitar Center over the weekend, and one of them was left handed. I have also seen numerous examples on the internet of FSR Jazzes in transparent blue over ash being sold as blems. I remember seeing FSR P basses as long as two years ago in GC.
