Members Muddslide
Okay, I need to build a rig back up. It'll be a few months before I can work on it (I'm making an offer on my first-ever house tomorrow) but I am thinking of starting with just a 1X15 cab, then augmenting that with another 1X15 cab if I ever end up playing gigs again that warrant that. It's been ten years since I gigged or bought bass amp gear. I was thinking of going with Peavey cabs. I always found Peavey stuff reliable and built like a tank. But I haven't always necessarily been happy with some of the electronics, so I was gonna look to other brands for a head. I want one that'll drive the 1X15 as well as a second 1X15 possibly down the road. I play a little of everything from old 50s {censored}-kickin' Brylcreem country to garage rock to punk to new wave to funk to classic rock to reggae to pure noise, so I need something pretty nuanced that can cover lots of tonal ground. At the same time, I'm kind of a traditionalist. I'm strictly a passive guy, for example. I also don't have a problem getting off-board EQ and effects. Anyways, any suggestions/advice? I'm just not familiar with all that's out there these days.
Members gonzobassman
Wow! There are tons of new stuff.I really like Mesa Boogie. They offer 1-15s that are killer, but a bit pricey. You can get virtualy any tone you want from their amps, but you might want to have a spare on hand.good Luck! Hey Gonzo, I was just reading of your predicament on another thread. That's what made me decide to post this one actually. Best of luck to you on that! Members gonzobassman
Thanks Muddslide.I'm actualy tracking a few items on Ebay as we speak,so I'm going to end up with two rigs most likely. That will take care of all present, and future woes, plus I'll have the versatility to do about any gig. Members NeonVomit
I can vouch for both of Funkee's picks. I love both GK and GB! Excellent value, reliability, features and sound with both of those brands.
Members Muddslide
Gallien- Krueger or Genz Benz!! What models? And aren't we talking like $800-$1200 here? I haven't priced these (though I've heard of them of course) but I have a feeling they'd be outta my range.
Members gonzobassman
The only thing I don't care for with GK is that 50 watts for a "tweeter" that I never used.Never had a problem with the 800RB I used to have, and it did have killer tone!Does the 700RB compare well to the 8000RB?You can get a 700RB for less than 600 new,Muddslide. Members NeonVomit
The 700rb is a fine, fine head. Comprable also Genz Benz models go for about that much, I think.
