Members Transmaniacon
I'm looking for a good overdrive/distortion pedal to use with my Ampeg BA-115. (I say overdrive/distortion since that is what I use with my guitar rig - OD1 and a DS1) I looked online and read a few reviews of the MXR M-80... seems like it would do the job (adding a bit of dirt to the Ampeg). Is there less expensive alternatives? I also have a Toneworks Pandora (for guitar) that I use for private/headphones type playing. Is there an inexpensive "do it all" box out there for bass? Members Optimus Prime
Fulltone Bass-Drive. It's got great OD and it has a boost (distortion) switch.
Members Renfield
Fulltone Bass-Drive. It's got great OD and it has a boost (distortion) switch. That is good. The DS-1 once it's been Keeley modded is a pretty solid box for bass too, especially on the front end of a tube amp. It's also amazing for guitar, maybe get your one pedal modded and you don't need to buy anything else?

What exactly does the "Keeley Mod" do? I'll have to check out the Fulltone box also... thanks!
Members Apendecto
My friend uses the DS-1 with pretty good results. I'm planning on buying a DS-1 and Keely-ing it to compare. Yo.

I much prefer the DS1 with bass, but have not tried a modded one yet. The FullTone just isn't as usable for adding some good meaty crunch to my ears. You're smoking rock if you think the Fulltone is buzzy. I CAN'T STAND buzz and I love that pedal.
Members t3ch
Renfield posted a youtube awhile ago of the DS-1's being compared. They both sounded really good, actually. The Keeley sounded 10x better though. I should have mine this week I also like my catastrofuzz and the Sansamp bass driver I had before. I also have a sparkle drive, but it's not as gritty as the other ones listed, and my bad monkey is pretty sweet for a tubey overdrive. It all depends what you want, there are so many options... Overdrive is overdrive, distortion is distortion, dirt is dirt, etc. I'm not sure what you're looking for

Compared to a DS1 it's nothing but buzz. Not the worst, but not the crunch that I want in a drive pedal. Try running your bass into a good tube guitar head sometime, and then tell me the FullTone is NOT buzzy.

Members t3ch
Also, what is everyone's boner with the bassdrive? That pedal sucks. ATTENTION ALL BASSISTS: THE PUNCH FACTORY AND BASSDRIVE BLOW DONKEYS, STOP HAVING A HARD ON FOR THEM.
Members Poltergeist
and, i only read that now: if youre using only a 115, chances are it will not sound very good with a drive. i love to use those dirty effects with 4x10's or at least a 115 with a 210 on top... this is only IMO, of course. with 115's they most of the times sound like mud, especially with an Ampeg combo. Members Renfield
Yup, that's the vid. Basically the mod makes the DS-1 not suck any more. I A/B'd them myself into a few guitar heads with some killer players, there is no comparison, it eats the unmodded one alive. It adds amazing tube-like grit to a tube amp and smooths out the rough edges an already driven amp. On bass it's a pleasure, I never found the DS-1 to be useable on bass, now it's second only to the Super Catastrofuzz for coolness. The SCF is my fav pedal right now, might well be the best bass distortion I have ever heard, and that's saying something. Need more time into more gear to say absolutely, but man, this thing rocks the casbah.

Most of the settings (on the Ampeg) sound dull or perhaps "mud-like" to me. After work I'm going to plug in the DS1 and give it a listen. Any Line 6 users out there? Maybe a Bass Pod would give me a wide range of tones and effects to toy with...

It sounds like theres a boost on it, and maybe a little more low end. What exactly is that mod doing? Info people, info!
