Members J-chot
A COMPONENT sorely needed in my bonkers, constantly evolving rig, is an amp that can put out the loudest lows for the cheapest amt of money. I'm gonna split the signal to another amp for the mids and highs, so I really don't care about anything but the most solid-chest smashing lows for the lowest amt of $ possible. let's brain storm.......... my current idea? : 2-15 cab with a Peavey Mark IV? Members guitargod0dmw
I'm sure most amps would be capable of that...just turn down the highs and turn up the lows. A 2X15 would probably be a good choice for a cab...
Members XylemBassGuitar
You've definitely got the right idea with the 2x15s. Maybe one 18" or even a 2x18".
CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted September 4, 2008 CMS Author Share Posted September 4, 2008 Ampeg PR-410HLF, and any power amp capable of about 1000 watts into 4 ohms. But if you really want to do it right, use a subwoofer, not a bass cabinet. And a crossover, if you're really serious.

Members JeffBass
Bridge the new Carvin BX1200 (1200w at 4 ohms) into this cab (link), EQ it accordingly and turn up the drive knob. You'll be in mud so thick you may discover a woolly mammoth!! http://hardtruckers.com/HT215B.html

Moderators Kindness Posted September 4, 2008 Moderators Share Posted September 4, 2008 Craigv has the best answer above. The best amplifier will be an appropriately sized professional grade power amp. The best cabinet for the lowest amount of money will be the Acme Low B-2W or B-4W. 99.8% of bass cabinets on the market will fail miserably for what you say you want. Members brake
You can't do what you're trying to do effectively with a bass amp...time for some PA gear.

Moderators isaac42 Posted September 5, 2008 Moderators Share Posted September 5, 2008 Doesn't actually go as low as you might think. Horns have low frequency cutoffs. I'm not sure where the cutoff is for the B36, but it has one.
Members walkerci
You want powerful lows? You need PA gear! + 2 X Works for me. You still need tops, another power amp, an active cross over, and a pre-amp though.
Members Renfield
Anyone remember those old Peavey "Monster" cabs? I can't find a pic of one online, but they had an 18 and a few other drivers too. My memory is hazy at this point, a friend of a friend had two for his bass rig in the 80's. Members D Aussie
Get a really big brick wall. Then get the most powerful EV or JBL-MR series 15" sub speakers you can get. Then get the most powerful Crown amp you can get. Then get a cheap crossover. Without the wall the rest is a waste of time.
