Any recommendations? fruityloops or hammerhead - both should still be free. HH is easy, FL is flexible.

Members Richy
I'm sure it's not the best anymore, but my old Alesis SR-16 was a good piece of kit, if it's a stand-alone you want. You should pick one up pretty cheap, they're getting on a bit!
Members lug
Sorry, didn't realize you were new here. He's a forumite that posts drum tracks here for others to record over.
Members fretless
Fretless  Thank you Sir. and a nod to the Korg Pandora , greatest device on the planet though limited with it's drums it's a must have tool. Boss and Roland have a few good ones , zoom does too . For software vst's EZdrummer no question .

Members Thump4Him
Yeah, that would be nice but I don't have enough room, they are too temperamental, and require food and stuff...

Got one in the spring and it's been hours of fun, and I haven't even scratched the surface of what this can do. FWIW I'm looking for a programmable drum machine. Members T. Alan Smith
Well, your thread title clearly asks for best drum machine, period, which would indicate the Machinedrum or an Akai MPC. But then you want simple and inexpensive, which would mean Fruityloops or Hammerhead. Are you looking for 'best' or bang for buck?
Members DevilRaysFan
Looking to get a simple, good sounding, inexpensive drum machine to practice to and possibly do some sample recording to. Any recommendations? Easy to Program drum machine? Lots of sounds? Wont drive you crazy? Flexible enough to be used as a hard-disk sample recorder? Can combine straight tracks, with MIDI files, VSTi/virtual softsynth capable as well as single-shot and loop sample modes? Use your computer and ACID ( preferably, the old Sonic Foundry V.4.0 but the new Sony V.6 is good too)...You can still integrate the use of other software (like the Hammerhead) with it
Members Renfield
Well other than Richie Ranchero.... I'd have to say the Pandora as well. I need a drummer, maybe he'll come over here to play with me. Of course, you're welcome to come here to try and get him back. :poke:

Members The Unknown
Try to find a Zoom RT-223... great ! The built in effects are great too.
Members hi.flyer
Go used I say, cop one of the lower-class Rolands (like the 707). I used to have an Alesis SR16 but I didn't like alot of the sounds and some aspects of programming it sucked. Now I want a Drumulator or a Casio RZ. Members BeeTL
Subscribing. I just bought a USB mixer, step 1 in the mini studio process. Drums seem like a logical next step...
Members hi.flyer
This thing actually looks pretty cool to me too. I mean I'd LOVE an MPC but that's kinda out of my budget. http://www.gigasonic.com/Akai-XR20.html
