Members sciamu
I'm replacing the stock onboard preamp of my MIM Fender jazz deluxe with a SeymourDuncan Stingray preamp.Any ideas about what Jazz-shape pickups I should put on it to get a Stingray sound (I mean growling bottom end and clacky highs when played with a pick) or at least very close to it?(Please don't tell me I should buy a REAL Stingray, I already know it ;-p )
Members Death Hands
Scooped mids, bothe pups full-on and a generous treble boost?
Members Super Bass
Put a Stingray pickup in it. :poke: or this... It's a Delano Hybrid, has the possibility of a Stingray sound or a Jazz sound in the one pickup.
Members collinwho
Maybe a stacked humbucker of some sort? I know they make them for guitar, do they make them for bass?
Members Jugghaid
Jazz pickups won't sound like a stingray.

I'm not saying you can't get a good sound, but it won't sound like a Ray. just like a les Paul isn't gonna sound like a strat and vice-versa. single-coils don't sound like humbuckers. If they did, we wouldn't really have a need for both. And what is "realtively close". That's pretty subjective. They both sound "relatively close" to a precision bass too depending on what you call close. They all sound like a bass.

Like Stingray Era Flea. You can get just about any sound you want if you {censored} with your EQ, regardless of pickup configuration.

Members Optimus Prime
Wow It seems to be a very interesting solution.... How does it sounds? I hear the Delano pickups sound like ass without a preamp. But you have one, so it would probably be awesome.

Members Super Bass
Right.... consider your source... I might put a Delano P in my fretless in the future. It's passive, I'll let people know how it goes.

Members hi.flyer
How about wiring the two single coil J pickups in series (like a humbucker, MM or otherwise)?
Members FloydianAnimal
I was actually considering putting a MM/J configuration of Delanos in my Marcus Miller Jazz thinking they might work well with the preamp. I wonder how they would sound in passive mode vs. active though...
Members L-1329
How about wiring the two single coil J pickups in series (like a humbucker, MM or otherwise)? That is essentially just what the Reverend 5L is, and it's aggressive, punchy and growley as all hell.

Too bad I'm poor. I like mine a lot. I was gonna go with the J4 HE pickups (covered J's) initially but the Delano people were away at NAMM and the store didn't have any in. I would have had to wait for a month until they picked up production again.
