Members Phantasm
Well, just when I thought I got through Gustav unscathed... now one of my bands, the guitar player is talking about moving to Kansas. He's had a hard run with an ex-girlfriend. She was an opiate user and eventually checked herself into rehab, and now she's out and with a new guy. He's bummed and feels like it's his fault their relationship failed. He evacuated to Kansas for the hurricane and says he felt like a load was taken off him. He applied for jobs and found a place to live. One of the jobs is doing a background check now and he says if they offer him a job, he's moving. When he came back home, he said that as soon as he got to town he was depressed again. Sounds like too many bad memories. I'm bummed because we had finally got the ball rolling with this band and we were starting to get some good bookings. We are recording a CD and while he's done with his tracking and everything is sounding far better than our existing demos, now it becomes a question of if/why we should finish the CD. He says he wants to continue the band, but with him in Kansas and us in South LA I don't see that as being realistic over the long run. I guess things got a little too comfortable and I forgot that sometimes people can't see the forest through the trees. I think he'll regret this decision but it will be too late once he realizes it. There will be a new girl when he moves and the same cycle will repeat... this is just life, but I guess he doesn't "see it" yet. Well, at least Menagerie is still alive and well... pending that our drummer doesn't decide to move with him. So anyways, kinda bloggish, but wanted to vent in a non-myspace way. Moderators ThudMaker Posted September 9, 2008 Moderators Share Posted September 9, 2008 What are the chances of finding a different guitarist who can fit in with the band and cut new guitar tracks for the CD? As for the guitarist that may be moving, a new scene can change one's outlook for a while, but usually unless the eyes viewing the scenery changes, nothing truly does. Whatever happens I wish you, your band and the guitarist the best.

It wouldn't be the same if we got a new guitarist, and he plays keys/guitar so we'd likely have to find two new people. I just feel like we would spend a lot of time to ultimately not work out. Even more than him quitting and moving, we are good friends. I know that ultimately he's not going to find what he's looking for in Kansas and he will regret it. The hardest thing is seeing a friend make a huge mistake that you know they'll regret and knowing that they will not listen to you.
