Crate V18 all tube amp for bass?

i was wondering if anybody here tried the new Crate V18 amps with thier bass? i found it to be surprisingly adept. it sound as if the path was tubes, and had a bit of bite from the tone stack. i thought the controls were idiot proof and hard not to find a good sound. class A 18 watts of tube goes loud, really thumps the bass.

 

if it was meant or not its a fine all tube classic bass amp at $150

It might be fine for very low powered practice use. Playing bass through guitar speakers is a recipe for disaster. The drivers can't handle the low frequencies.

why ? it seem to sound pretty good turned up. the power in the lower notes would smooth out into a overdrive like state as it maintains the level. i thought it was cool.

Guitar speakers are designed to handle guitar frequencies. The low end of bass can cause over-excursion and warps the speaker coil.

Keep pumpin' Bass through that and save up for new speakers at the same time!

 

Although...I wonder how a bass cab would sound with one of these.....

Any reason you couldn't replace the driver with something like a Delta 12LF, seal up the back, and install a couple ports?

 

It does look a little shallow to get nice TS parameters out of bass, but maybe it'd sound good sealed.

For $150 I may pick one up. Of course, they are out of stock @ MF till October now. Hmmm..

you'd cook the tubes.they do make a v series head that might be ok paired with a nice cab.

What if you stuck a computer fan in one of the ports?

I have a V32H that I sometimes plug in to an Avatar SB112. It sounds pretty good for bass, IMHO.
