Members slapthefunkyfour
No, I'm not committing suicide, I'm going to try to install a new operating system on my computer. I finally decided to move into the 21st century and upgrade from windows 2000 to XP. I've never had to do this before, and I really hope I don't break anything. I'm gonna backup the hard drive to a separate computer so I won't lose anything important. I'll finally be able to restrict my kids from looking at objectionable websites. (unless they share with me ) It will also let me start recording some new music. That's what I'm really excited about. So, wish me luck and if there are any last words you would like to say, say it now or forever hold your peace.

Members jannda
Piece of cake. just have all your drivers handy and follow the on screen instructions. The other thing you might want to do is to check and make sure your divers are all compatable with XP. some might not be. Members W33nie
A driver is something you need to install to run specific hardware on your computer. It's usually a CD, but some drivers can be downloaded (printers all need drivers for example, and there are websites that offer free drivers for many printer models)
Members slapthefunkyfour
just checking in from my iPod. The damn computer is still backing up all my info to the external drive. I had no idea it would take six hours just for the backup. I've already downloaded all the new drivers for XP and stored them on a flag drive. I've decided to do a complete reformatting of the hard drive and a clean new install of the OS. I've had a horrible time watching DVDs or YouTube for as long as I've had this computer and I think it could be because of the 24 different video drivers that were installed. Hopefully it will work better this time.

Members slapthefunkyfour
how many gigs of stuff are you moving? I only had to move about 9 gigs, but through a USB cable it took forever. I'm now formatting the hard drive. I hope that doesn't take all night.
