After years of avoiding it, I need to add an overdriven sound for what basically amounts to two songs during my set. I've tried a couple of the BOSS and DOD stompbox offerings offerings in the past, and was less than impressed. Anyone care to chime in with the pros and cons of each of the aforementioned units, and share their experiences?

Thanks!

I bought a sansamp bass driver d.i. about a month ago after trying my buddies rackmount version, which he uses to drive a hartke 250. I have to say it was the best $200 I ever spent on a piece of gear. It not only gives a warm, natural sounding distortion but it keeps it's bottom. Even when you are not using it for distortion, like as a preamp through your effects return, it cuts through like magic. I play mine as a pre through an SWR350. I highly recommend it.

This is what I use. If you are going to spend the money on a rackmount preamp, the Sansamp RBI may be pretty good. For a stompbox though, I can't easily recommend the Sansamp BDDI. No mid control and no switchable distortion/drive like the MXR. The Paradriver from Tech 21 looks more versatile, but I've never used it.

I use mine in a similar setup to Sub5ound, as a preamp into a SWR 750 and Goliath. It makes my fretless Corvette (strung with rounds) growl and snap like a Fender Jazz on steroids. I love it!
