Members soundchaser59
but I play one on tv... Actually, I'm a guitar player and keyboard player who has to pretend to play bass for my homade recordings. So I have a bass, but I have until now just kept it simple and stupid. Bass > DI > track. But I saw this Korg AX5B bass modeler for a real bargain price with free shipping. So I'm wondering if the thing is good enough for home recording, and is it worth $100 bucks (new). I know my guitar gear, but I know almost nothing about what's out there for bass. Anybody used one of these things? Is it plastic junk? Or is this a good deal? Does Korg have decent sound? Members SB900LE
I have an earlier version of the Ax5b. And I recommend it for average users. The models and effects are great to play around with and learn with, and it has a tuner and metronome. Not the highest quality sounds, but good enough for home recording projects, in my opinion, unless you are hi-tech. For the money, it's not a bad little multi-unit, IMO. Most of the regular online retailers of this unit (including sweetwater.com) are selling them at $79.99, so you may want to check around for a total price less than $100. Members dabbler
I have an AX3B (same innards, just mine doesn't have the integral expression pedal). MF was blowing them out for $39 or so. I already had a Korg guitar multi-effects unit which I liked (AX1500G) so I got it. To be sure, I don't use effects with bass, but the first effect (for times when I forgot to put it in bypass) sounds pretty good! For the price, I figured, heck it's worth it just for the tuner. I like Korg effects, I also recently got an AX3000G which is sonically better than the 1500, but they took out the metronome and looper (can't figure out why some of these companies to some things)! If it's a good price, go for it. Some people poo-poo the Korg multis because they have plastic housings, but they are substantial enough for what it sounds like you want it for, IMO.
