GAS questions

Now that I finally have a little band thing going, my GAS level is going through the roof. Just found out we reached our quarterly sales goal and will be getting the quarterly bonus. Can someone recommend items to fill these perceived needs/wants: (and I am going on teh cheap here)

1) Tuner Pedal w/ mute (I want an easy way to mute during a performance and figured a tuner pedal might be the right way to go)

2) Effects - Just want some way to change my tone up some or get a different sound. Fuzz? Overdrive? A GM pedal (Catastrofuzz)? ? (I am mainly playing a MIM Jazz with upgraded pickups)

3) Is the X-2 wireless still most peoples favorites on here? I am getting tired of cables...

Thanks for your opinions and recommendations!

Boss TU-2 is simple, reliable, works. Korg is good stuff too though.

A C-Fuzz will take you up to and through the roof, so make sure it's what you want/need. :) It's fun though, but was a little more than I needed. I like my Analogman modded Ibby TS9DX. Works great.

I plan on getting an X2 again soon, probably the XDS-Plus. Features and capabilities of the XDR, but portable.

I think the Boss TU-2 is the ony way to go, for me at least. As far as the X2, don't believe the hype. I tried the $500 + model, I forget the exact model. I wound up with the sennheiser ew-172 G2. It is definitely the better of the two. Here's a couple selling points:

1. The x2 feels CHEAP(plastic) - senn is METAL construct

2. The x2 cables are notorious for going bad, they should upgrade to the $50 canare right off the bat. It's so common, even a line 6 (they now own x2) rep told me to bypass that cord (included) that comes with them and upgrade (but of coure could offer no deal after saying that....go figure)

3. Sennheiser has given me zero trouble and has smoking range.....better than the x2 proven with the same bass, same amp, same setting

Spend some coin on your wireless........save up, do not go "cheap" you will not be happy in the end........I will hold that statement to my death! Haha......not shooting please.......I am just voicing my opinion so that others do not waste their money in situations similar to mine! :-)

There are lots of gooed stage tuners. If money were no object, I'd recommend the Strobostomp, but if it is for live tuning only, any decent pedal will do just fine. Pick one you like the look/interface.

Have you played any pedals before? Distortion/compression effects are the most common, but there are plenty of other styles.

I'm not a wireless guy. Much too modern for my tastes.

I have played with pedals and effects for guitar but have little experience with bass effects. I horsed around with an old Zoom 505 guitar pedal on my bass just to see what kinds of noises I could make, but that will never work in a gig environment. I may go to GC and just play through several and see what kind of sounds I like. I am not real up on the descriptive words for the sounds, but I think I am looking for a little gritty growl??

Good luck finding good bass distortion at guitar center.

Maybe later I can upload a video going through all mine, though I don't know that I'll have time tonight. I'll try though, and that would give you a good idea of what to look for. I can get any distortion sounds out of what I have.

Last night I picked up a Roland/Boss TU-2... I went to the local store where they know your name and not GC where they don't care. The local store did not have any Korg pedals but tons of Boss stuff. Took it home last night and played with it for a while and really like it. Now I just need some effects pedals to daisy chain off of it... Oh, no... I'm turning into T3CH!! :poke:

I've got the Peterson Strobostomp and it is fantastic for tuning and intonation.

The only problem is I can't see the display when standing except under the right lighting conditions (20% of the time). Part of this might be my declining eyesight though.

No worries. If you were turning into t3ch, you'd have sold it off already, and bought 7 others that you weill never use either.
