Need some advice on adding a P-bass p/u to a Musicman

So I have an OLP Musicman. The bass sustains well, I put a project J-bass neck on it, so it's turned into a killer playing practice bass. I love P-basses and thought why not route a P-bass pickup in the neck and add a 3-way toggle switch to pair with the humbucker in the bridge.

My questions: How do I decide where I want to route the pickup without running into any phase problems? The bass is currently stock with 3 knobs v/v/t, how would I wire up the p-bass properly?

When I'm done, I'll def. post pics and sound clips. Also if anyone has a cheap P-bass pickup they want to let go feel free to PM me details.

Aren't olp humbuckers placed in the P position? I know mine basically is. If the P pup is towards the neck too far, you wont get a real P sound out of it.

That's correct. The P-bass pickup will be a little higher than normal. I'm thinking I could route the body, try it out and if I hate it, just rip out the pickup and put the pickguard back on to cover up that bad idea :thu:

If it's an olp humbucker, I honestly think you'll be fairly fine in terms of output, but I don't know a whole lot about that. Guttermouth just might be a good guy to consult. :p
