Members 82Daion
Smith got here this morning. Plays great, beautiful woodwork, everything you'd expect from a $3500 bass, right? Well, the preamp board for the midrange/pan part of the circuit is currently dangling loose along with the silicon backs of the pots it was soldered to. Looks like it either got snapped off during shipping or got snapped off before it was shipped.... I ought to just stop buying gear with my luck. Members gspointer
Sorry to hear that, I hope you can get some cash back. It should be an easy fix though. BTW pics, or it still doesn't exist.
Members 82Daion
OTOH, it sounds absolutely kickass in passive mode.
Moderators Kindness Posted October 10, 2008 Moderators Share Posted October 10, 2008 I don't know what you are describing. But it doesn't sound like it is a horrible problem for someone else to fix. If only you knew someone that could do it for you.

If only you knew someone that could do it for you. The preamp consists of 3 circuit boards connected by cabling. The boards are soldered to the pots so that they are standing on edge in the cavity, like so: The "legs" of the pots are what hold the board upright. The board that's loose has snapped the legs off the pots it was attached to. It looks as though a previous owner (not necessarily the guy I got it from) made a mistake while changing the battery and never said anything. The bass still works in active mode, but the pan pot and mid control are not functioning, as would be expected since the pots are connected to nothing. It can probably be fixed with a quick call to Ken.

Moderators Kindness Posted October 10, 2008 Moderators Share Posted October 10, 2008 Got it. You can replace those two pots on the board and wire it back up. Ken should be able to hook you up, if not, I know someone that will.

Members 82Daion
Are you playing that at the Hammerbash? Probably. I'm not having any trouble at all getting used to the low string, so there's no reason not to.

Members davidM
am i crazy or is that 9v not secure in the cavity? is it just free to bump around on those two silcon boards?? or is there something on the cover that holds it in place? Members Jugghaid
Sweet bass, bro. Even the Smith Burrner series I had was a terrific bass, and I'm sure that thing blows it's doors off. That's not a terribly hard fix. Shouldn't take long.
