Members ambys
Been playing guitar for over a decade. I run a pair of Fender Pro Juniors in stereo and now that I'll be taking up bass I'd like something that complements those well. Any thoughts? I'll be looking the used route on Craig's List so the more suggestions, the merrier

Members chubrocker
Will you be gigging? Or just jamming? Your budget determines a lot. For now, I'd recommend something in the 120-200 watts combo. For small combos, I really prefer a 12" speaker. If you have the $$, check out a 2X10 combo. I just got a Nemesis 1x15 combo (NC200P) that I really like a lot. Things are going cheap on Ebay right now, so that is helpful.
Members bassgirl9
Orange crush 35B work really well with the Jrs IMO. My buddy has a SUNN amp, I'm not sure the exact model, but it would be nice as well with a JR.
Members ambys
Just jamming, no gigging. Also, I play in a condo where I can't get too loud, so I'd rather invest in something of really great sound quality than something that has extra watts I won't be able to use. Let's say my budget is $250-300 or so, used. I could be persuaded to go up or down from there a bit for the right amp, but that's my comfort zone. Members vinxbass
A used Peavey TNT115 combo, 200 watts or a used Carvin which usually gives you a lot of bells and whistles for a pretty good price. If your only going to spend $300 your not going to find alot that has exceptional sound. I've been playing for 34 yrs. so exceptional sound to me is just that - exceptional, which means you need to spend a pretty decent sum of money. Members ambys
The thing is that's like, oodles and oodles of more power than I can even use. What about something like the Orange AD5?

What about something like the Orange AD5? If you're going to run it through a guitar amp, you might as well use one of your Blues Jr.s. Although, I wouldn't recommend that. Members ambys
Err, my bad, for some reason I thought that was a bass amp. Is there anything like that designed for bass?

Orange Crush 35B Don't be afraid of the 35 watts. It's not as loud as you may fear.

Members bassgirl9
solid state!? :poke: But seriously, the crush is good? A ha ha, guitar players. Solid state isn't as gross for bass as it can be for guitar. Of course you'll want to try it out first YMMV. I was just thinking the Orange goes well with the Blues Jr. If you want tube-y tone, then another suggestion would be a Garnet Banshee if you can possibly find one. It would be a fantastic apartment amp. I have one and highly recommend it. They're pretty vintage sounding and great with slide guitar too. Members ambys
Thanks a ton, guys. I'll see what I can find locally to try and then take it from there. There's a local place that's an authorized Orange dealer so I can definitely try the Crush... I'll see if I can find a Garnet, too. Anyway, I appreciate the help. Members seraphim7s
There are pretty much no commercially available quiet tube amps for bass. There used to be 50, 75, 100, 120, and 150 watt bass heads, but now they pretty much start at 200 and go up to 400 watts. At $250-300 it's gonna be SS or nuthin'! Members ambys
What price would I be looking at for something low-wattage that is less commercialized or more boutique? Are there as many options as there are in the guitar arena? Apologies, I'm a bit new to the bass world.
Members seraphim7s
Ashdown MAG and Gallien Kreuger are often touted in the 'inexpensive but good' field. Both are SS. A 1x12 to go with that would work for just playing by yourself - most people 'round here recommend Avatar.

Maybe give that line a look too.
