Members neptunefix
My initial impressions are that it's about on par with the lowest end Squire basses I've tried, except the neck is thinner than the Squire P-bass. It feels heavyish and the balance is top heavy. The fretboard feels good for the most part and maybe even better than some of the Squires I've played. The rosewood has a lot of white grain/dusty looking coloration to it and it doesnt feel as soft as most of the other rosewood fretboards I've dealt with. (I have a ton of guitars). The finish seems ok , head and back of the neck are orangish but that was expected. The tuners do not feel very smooth at all and the strings are thin, but I will replace the strings immediately. I also have a Gotoh 201 bridge waiting to be put on it. The sound - There's some slight fret buzz, especially at the 1st fret when tuned to standard. This is only magnified all over the low string when tuned to drop-D, I am hoping thicker strings will help. The pickups actually sound pretty good. Clean and a lot clearer than I was expecting. I don't think I'll need to upgrade them. The wiring, pots, and jack all seem fine. Overall, I'd say this is a really good deal considering how cheap it is. That's not dust, that's the actual coloration of the fretboard. I hope this contributes to any others trying to get info on SX basses.
Members Thumper
Welcome to the club. The bridge will help for stability. As for the frets, you might want to pm willsellout. Dan has done a fair bit of fret work, and knows what he's doing.
Members t3ch
Damn that's one of the uglier sx fretboards I've seen, you weren't kidding. The P pups definitely sound pretty good though, I hope you enjoy it. I traded my SX-P for a guitar I rarely play on here, and I still miss it. Members xbassman
I have a Douglas 5 string and the neck looked just like yours. I used boiled linseed oil and it looks a lot better.
