Members korowa
I bought it to play bass in my bedroom, so it's OK it's not loud thing at 09 level. I played at it for a few days and only yesterday tried to change the loud level up to 03 and 06. The output was the same as at 09! This thing supposed to rumble at 50 Wt and what I see? Nothing. Question: Is it OK or something is wrong with that combo? (I bought it second hand)
CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted October 17, 2008 CMS Author Share Posted October 17, 2008 Are we supposed to know if something's wrong with the amp, based on what you just wrote? It's a 50w amp. What exactly were you expecting? I've played several and they are just fine for what they are...a small combo that's great for practice, and quiet rehearsing or small gigs with PA support. Members korowa
I'm stupid, and waiste no time to prove it to you or me. The point is too quiet to my taste comparing to Peavey Blazer 15Wt guitar combo! I didn't expect that...
CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted October 17, 2008 CMS Author Share Posted October 17, 2008 Compared to a *guitar* into the Blazer? If so, that's not surprising...guitar is typically much louder per watt than bass. You usually will need about ten times the power of the guitar rig to really keep up on bass. Are you using the 0dB or -15dB input? Active or passive bass?
Members Roswellian
I have a BA112 I have noticed that you need to roll up the bass mids and treb pots to 7 or 8 to get much volume out of the amp. try that and see what happens
Members korowa
I use a passive bass (It's OK into Trace Elliot something 100Wt at my teacher's studio). I think you are right about loudness of a guitar comparing to a bass. As to 0dB or - 15dB - I hear the difference but it's nothing to note. I play 0dB at any time of the night . Members korowa
Thanks for advice about treble and mids - I think that is the point! I'm stupid!!!!!!!!!! A-A!!!!
Members lug
See the style switch? Put it on "3" instead of 1 or 2 and up your mids. Mine will keep up with a drummer unless he's going completely nuts.
Members WynnD
ONe more thing. Don't tilt it back. You lose the coupling with the floor that increases the bottom end. If you can place it where the floor meets the wall the coupling will increase again. These aren't large increases, but you should be able to hear the difference. (You will effectively be adding 1/2 of a horn to the speaker.)
Members JeffBass
It should be VERY loud just playing in a room. It should be nearly loud enough to jam with. I had a Peavey 60w, 1x12 and although it had to be drastically eq'd, I could jam with it. My Behringer BX300 shakes my walls and it's a 30w, 1x10. Take the amp back, try it side by side with a new one and if they're both the same, exchange it for a different amp.I hope there's something wrong with it because if it performs like that as designed, Ampeg's got problems. Members JeffBass
The difference between using the 0db and -15db input jacks should be HIGHLY noticeable. You're right. Mine's only a -10b and it's very noticeable but my active Spector's so hot though it makes up for it. My passive Godin's way too quiet in the -10b. I think there's something wrong with his amp actually. 50w into a good 12" speaker should start shaking his bedroom walls around 3. Anything past 5 should be unlistenable. Members chunky-b
My Peavey Max 112 (40W) will rattle pictures in my living room at 3... So something is off.
Members korowa
Thank you all guys. Especially for style-switch up to 3! Everything is OK. Came home and tried your advises. My cat dropped off the bed... Though it could be more loud to my taste

Members Bluescout
To get the type of volume you're looking for, put your BA-112 on top of an SVT and an 810.
