Members bigmac9137
I just bought an Ampeg SVT-CL used. I got it and something is alittle wrong. I plug it in and play, but the harder I hit the strings on my bass, I get a crackling noise through my speakers. When i play softly(not hitting strings as hard) it doesnt, but it does badly when i start playing harder. at first i thought it might be the input jack but i cleaned that and its still doing it. Could it be dirty power or something with that?

Moderators Kindness Posted October 21, 2008 Moderators Share Posted October 21, 2008 It is not something you can fix yourself. Take it to a qualified tech.
Members bigmac9137
what is wrong with it? Do I need a power conditioner, would that help?
Members 82Daion
what is wrong with it? Do I need a power conditioner, would that help? I can't say what's wrong with it, but that's definitely not the solution.

There's no way to know with the info we've been given and the info we'd need isn't accessible without putting the OP in danger.
Members Guttermouth
if the bias lights in the rear are functioning as they should be then it needs to go to the shop.

Members 82Daion
Oh, just for kicks-are you using an active bass, and have you changed the batteries lately?
Members bigmac9137
i do use an active, and i havent changed it in a while, but i used it through the passive (0db) jack too, so it shouldnt matter in that jack, right?

The front light is working normally. I've only backlined CLs, so I don't have any experience with the bias lights or their behavior. My SVT is older.
