Members King Kashue
Elite XC to close it's doors at the end of the week Not sure where the previous thread went, maybe it got nasty after I stopped reading it or something I was trying to find my post that said anyone who thinks Elite XC will still be running a year from now is nuts and that they'll go out of business within the month...It took half that time. Members dDigitalPimp
it was clear it was the beginning of the end when the owner of the org. was yelling at the ref for an illegal hit when that no-name dropped kimbo. it all hinged on kimbo, keep winning and people keep paying. that is a bad business plan. now kimbo can go back to beating up bums or start selling 'slices' of pizza. Members WillPlay4food
PRIDE was good stuff. Didn't Zuffo (Dana White/UFC) buy them up? Yes, they did. [edit]My wife & I happened to catch the Petruzelli fight as we were channel surfing the night it happened live. I couldn't believe Slice went down to one off-balance punch to the jaw, but sometimes that's all it takes. At first the missus & I called fix, but one angle did show a solid hit to the jaw so it could've taken Slice out of the fight long enough for him to become defenseless to Petruzelli's non-stop headshots (Slice was holding the sides of his head for dear life). If I had paid to be in that arena I would've been pissed, but sometimes matches go like that.
Members J.
I still like the UFC. Hopefully an MMA version of Don King doesn't appear and ruin it.
CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted October 21, 2008 CMS Author Share Posted October 21, 2008 While I saw plenty of promotion for the Kimbo fight, I have to admit to being ignorant to what Elite XC is. I guess I won't miss it, eh?
Moderators ThudMaker Posted October 21, 2008 Moderators Share Posted October 21, 2008 I miss when boxing was a grand sport. Before Tyson. We had the Spinks brothers, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Roberto Duran and more. This ultimate fighting stuff is crap, IMHO.

Boxing is a sport that's been constantly plagued by fraud and corruption.
Members Bluescout
I watch UFC with a friend that loves the stuff. He is a martial artist and appreciates that part of it. Occasionally we watch another MMA org and it gets easy to see that UFC really runs things the best.

This ultimate fighting stuff is crap, IMHO. i used to like boxing when the lennox lewis was in his prime along with the klitchko (sp) brothers but there really has not been any great heavyweights for a few years. MMA is so much more than boxing and requires multiple areas of skill. i think it is more interesting than boxing because everyone has a different style and its cool to see how one guy will size up against another with totally different styles. there are some guys in MMA who have such good hands they could go rounds with a professional boxer in a boxing match where as a boxer would get destroyed in an MMA fight without specific training. Members WillPlay4food
more so than XFL?? Hey now, the XFL had higher ratings than the NHL the year it was on TV. Also, the VISA cam (or whatever each network calls the camera behind the QB hanging on all the wires) came from the XFL too.

We had the Spinks brothers, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Roberto Duran and more. This ultimate fighting stuff is crap, IMHO. Those were the great days of boxing. You could watch Duran and Hagler fights on a Saturday afternoon on network TV. I'm still a big fan of MMA though but I don't want UFC to operate as a monopoly because it means less great matchups. The UFC wants to own their fighters and many great fighters will not tolerate their heavy handed tactics, including the world's greatets fighter, Fedor. Hopefully Affliction doesn't fail. We had the Spinks brothers, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Roberto Duran and more. This ultimate fighting stuff is crap, IMHO. You need to watch more boxing then. There are a ton of great fighters out there right now. Manny Pacquiao, Antonio Margarito, Joe Calzaghe, Chad Dawson, Mikkel Kessler, Kelly Pavlik, Arthur Abraham, Miguel Cotto, Paul Williams, Andre Berto, Paulie Malignaggi, Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez, Jorge Arce, and on and on and on. In the last 5 years we saw the retirement (or aging and downfall) of some of the best that ever fought. De La Joya, Mosely (although he's still good), Hopkins (who just beat Pavlik) Barrera, Mayweather, Morales, Corrales (who died in a motorcycle accident) , and so on. Tons of great fighters. Probably more than at any other time. The problem is there is no dominant heavywheight so everyone thinks boxing sucks. it doesn't. they do have a problem with all of the different organizations and titles and belt-holders, but there is a {censored}load of great boxing out there. UFC would be so much cooler if they allowed a cutman and few seconds to recuperate. That Kimbo fight for example - how much cooler would it have been to allow him to patch that cut above the eye and continue? Some of the best fights I've ever seen have been after the "loser" gets hurt (like DeLaHoya in his prime)

Members Crescent Seven
The WEC is just as exciting as the UFC, because they have the featherweight division. Guys like Urijah Faber are incredible fighters. One thing I appreciate about MMA that boxing has lost is class; you never see fighters trying to fight each other at weigh ins, and when the fight is over, more often than not, they help each other up off the mat and congratulate each other. There's very little pre-fight drama, except for on The Ultimate Fighter, but that's designed as a "drama" for television. Elite XC was doomed as soon as they hung their entire organization on one man. They had a chance to build themselves up as a legit organization, but chose to gamble on Kimbo and CBS. If they had spent their money on putting together good fight cards, and getting talented announcers and producers, it would have gone over much better. I'd rather watch a bunch of no-names duke it out with good production that watch a hype-match that appears to be slapped together desperately.C7
Members RSBro
I'll be watching UFC 91 - Lesnar v. Couture but probably go to BWW or something to see it. I'd like to watch the one next weekend too, but $50 is a lot for a PPV that you don't know if it'll be worth it or not. I learned my lesson from the Liddell v. Jackson fight!
