Members Mojo Marty
I'm going to Long Beach tomorrow, for a meeting Tuesday. I'll get in about noon, and am looking for things to do for the rest of the day. Any ideas about what I must see or do if I only have an afternoon? Any of the Long Beachers got a gig Monday or Tuesday night I could check out?

There is also an amazing restaraunt down there that has Taco Tuesday, but it's packed. You could also go to my old stomping groung "Panama Joe's". Best Margarita's in Long Beach (and $1 tacos too!) Members Brother Mango
Here's a great place to go. It's in the Belmont Shore part of Long Beach and I found it nicer than downtown Long Beach: http://www.2ndstreet-cigars.com/
Members jackcheez
Here's a great place to go. It's in the Belmont Shore part of Long Beach and I found it nicer than downtown Long Beach: http://www.2ndstreet-cigars.com/ Nicer if you like the touristy part of town. I wish I had a gig to recomend. All I can say is that the coolest bar in town is in the downtown. House of Hayden at 1st and Elm. That part of the downtown is known as the East End Arts District and there's some cool stuff even if you're not looking for a drink. I always enjoyed walkabouts too. Start at Shoreline Village, walk around the marina, then go down to the beach. If you're in the downtown, there's very good Mexican food at SuperMex, corner 1st and Alamitos. There's awesome pub food (best fish and chips anywhere) at E.J. Malloy's on Broadway just past Redondo. Good beer too. If you want the dive bar circuit, start at 4th and Alamitos, The V-Room. Then work your way East to the Red Room, then Fern's.

Members Renfield
I hit up West Coast Choppers when I was there. Was invited for dinner at Mike Watt's place in Pedro too, but the timing didn't work out, he was on the road with the Stooges at the time.

WCC is a lot of fun to check out, there are a lot if interesting cars and motorycles in there. Last time I was there I saw a lifted (at least a foot) Stingray Corvette and about 8 others cars/choppers. While I didn't meet Mike Watt, I did meet Jesse James once. Some people like the Japanese Gardens on campus, I never went in the 5 years I went to school there so no comment. World of Strings on 7th street is a guitar shop with a room dedicated to uprights. If you need to do some shopping there is a Nordstrom's Rack on Long Beach Blvd. and 5th street (I love it there because they have an isle of large size shoes just for me). Check out the bars that the others recommended, they are all lots of fun. Oh, and if you want some insanely good food, check out 2nd street, specifically Lucille's for bbq and Open Sesame for Mediteranean style food. Open Sesame is cheaper and has a funner environment but both serve top notch food.

The Queen Mary is a lot of fun to explore at night. I've ridden down there on my bike with some buddies and have had a great time chilling with a beer on the top decks then walking up and down the hallways (which can be fairly creepy at times). Members Mojo Marty
Thanks guys, neat town, an afternoon is not nearly enough time. I got in to the hotel at the airport about noon, and checked in the HCBF just in time to get a couple of recommendations, before the site went down for maintenance. I did the Shoreline Village and marina, then went for lunch at EJ's because I felt like fish and chips. good call it was excellent. Had a couple of Moose Drools too, which were excellent. I would have gone for margaritas too, but I did have to drive. Drove over to the Queen Mary from there, and toured the Russian Sub. If I finish my meeting early tomorrow, I'm going to try to hit the guitar shop, or WCC, but I'm not hopeful. I usually get out here a couple times a year, but usually don't have this much time. I also appreciate you guys not sending a relative n00b to a biker bar or a gay bar (not that there's anything wrong with that).

If you can hit up the guitar shop and WCC you will definitely be leaving with a smile on your face! World of Strings is a really special place, I can't imagine many stores have that selection of upright basses. Check out their site.
