Members Dave Campbell
I'm looking into the possibility of hitting the trigger on a Jazz copy with the Audere JZ3 preamp, and Basslines pickups. I've only ever had passive Jazzes. SuperBass, I listened to the sound clips you posted in an earlier thread. Is this unit relatively quiet? What about ease of use? Hi dave, Yeah very quiet, although not as much as I'd like with my setup. But that's due to the Tapewounds, which are being replaced soon. I'm gonna put some flats on 'er. It's extremely easy to install, no soldering required. There are terminals on the board for screwing in the pickup wires and a crimp thingy for the bridge ground wire. It's very easy to use and also customisable via the replacement tone caps. There's a lot of info on the Audere site about these and you can buy an assorted bag there. Members dabbler
Since you asked for opinions, which are free, here's mine: I put a JZ3 in my SX SJB57, I was somewhat hesitant because I wanted a pre that could be switched out so I could get good passive tone. But everyone talked about how transparent it is... they were right! I love it. It was really easy to install, except for the fact that I had to carve the electronics cavity a little deeper to accept the battery, and with the Z switch it's made my bass super flexible. Don't get me wrong, you CAN hear a small difference between the audere and a the bass as true passive, but the difference, IMO, is MORE than made up for with the tonal control it adds.
