I have jumped off the Fender bandwagon.

I used to be all about Fender, but having some issues with their stuff in the past, I am more into Ibanez, and ESP/LTD's these days.

I think my next bass will be something from the ESP/LTD line. I can't dig the Gibson/Epi stuff, yet I am really liking the Schecters.

I just kept having issues with the necks, hum, and actions. I owned a couple and played many, and its seems like over the last couple years they have gotten kinda sloppy.

Whats sad for me is that the lower-line Squiers all play/respond to me better than the upper-line USA basses do...............

I am fighting with issues on my new Jazz bass as well. After filing a few high frets, setting the intonation, and adjusting the neck and string radius.... the action is about 1/2" and completely unplayable.

Even though I doubt they can do anything more than what I've done, I'm dropping it off at a music store for a setup tonight. Hopefully it will be ready for this weekend.

sigh

all guitars need some maintenance every once and a while. i took my taylor 410 out of its case for the first time in a while the other day and the neck needed an adjustment, action was pretty darn high. im not going to say that taylor's quality is suspect, its more like the changing of seasons/humidity level is.

no matter what brand of instrument you own, there is a chance you will have to do some truss rod adjustment.. esp. with basses.

HIGH FIVE

I'm trying to convince one of my guitar players, that there are better made instruments out there. He wants to get back into 7-string guitars for some new songwriting. Problem is, Fender makes CRAP 7-stringers.

He's sold on the name. Not the product. Too bad...

Oh, and I've recently acquired an ESP/LTD from a local kid. He babied this bass, and was frightened to learn I was gonna strip off the finish for a cosmetic facelift. I reassured him that no matter what, it would look METAL by the time I was done with it.

But until I get the spare time this winter to do it, I'ma play this sumbitch to death! OH the humanity!!!

Fail. I've had my MTD since Feb., and I've been measuring the action and keep seeing if the intonation has come off, etc. Hasn't changed a bit. Same goes for the good 'ol Mods.

You Fender boys just have so many issues you don't know what it's like to have a "set it and forget it" bass! :D

I'm still jealous of my friend's Ken Smith. Makes me REALLY want to just quit screwing around and buy ONE final bass that will keep in tune, keep straight, and keep me happy for ever.

But we all know that's a fantasy! Cuz G.A.S. is, as we all know, INCURABLE!

The difference between a $4k "custom" or luthier-made bass and a $4k Custom Shop Fender, is you actually get your monies-worth with the former! :D

I hope to get a late 80's Ken Smith someday too. They're truly amazing. I've had the chance to plink around on a few, and decided I wasn't good enough yet to own a piece like that. :thu:

I like John Pattitucci's 6'er. One just like that, but in 5 strings.

You know I was just giving you a hard time... ;)

Mr. T. does it right the first time- so he doesn't even have to show up from then on!

I played a Fender Jazz last Monday (I work next door to the GC in Arlinton Heights, IL) and assumed it was an American model because it played so well and felt so solid. It was a MIM !! Then I played a new Squire, one of those retro models, and even that played nicely. Far better than the old Squires. Nice looking too. I had bad luck with their Rumble amps but the pro model amps look nice, especially the new 2x15 and 6x10 cabs.

I'm here to tell you it really does happen. I thought my Quantums were the shizit until I picked up a new MTD. I haven't played another bass outside my practice room since.

When people say "One day you'll find 'Your' bass!", this is what they were talking about.

I play a Roscoe Beck IV and have not had to adjust the neck yet. It is great. I own 3 other basses and everytime I try to get away from the RB, I wind up going back to it. The others just sit in my practice room collecting dust, but I carry my Explorer for back up. I think it may be the case of "One day you will find "YOUR" bass." Like Rockstarbassist said.
