Members safebuster1
thinking of getting one I play mostly classic rock but some blues and americana as well I use a bunch of different basses P bass, Jazz, a couple of different 5 string basses (active), any opinions I was looking at the Carvin BR610 with the neo speakers they suggested them for the low HZ better response but i dont know anyone with carvin experience. SWR is a possibility as well as Ampeg ...there are a bunch of possibilities would like some opinions...thanks folks! ....GO GIANTS oh yeah i want to use 2x10s

Members LanEvo
Since you're in NYC and considering an SWR 2x10" combo, I have just the amp for you: http://acapella.harmony-central.com/showthread.php?p=29687453#post29687453 It's an original, pre-Fender SWR Red Head in very good condition. Although the first owner gigged with it, this has been a "bedroom amp" for the entire 10+ years I've owned it. I'm looking for $600, but will entertain reasonable offers. The amp is in Tenafly, NJ ... about 3-4 miles from the GWB. Just take the Palisades Parkway North for a single exit (to Exit 1 = Englewood) and you're pretty much there. CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted November 1, 2008 CMS Author Share Posted November 1, 2008 Big +1 for the Red Head. Damned awesome combo, and I'm not a big SWR fan by any means. In fact, if the OP doesn't snatch it up, and *if* I land a permanent job soon (I'm really tired of contract work) remind me and I'll take the drive up. I used to live in Wood-Ridge (not Woobridge) and know the area well.
Members Bottom End
Yeah, look at the SWR (I'm also not a huge fan). But I'm even less of a fan of anything Carvin.
Members bnyswonger
I'm not a huge fan of that configuration or SWR, but the redhead is a very impressive little amp IMO.
Members JeffBass
The Carvin you're looking at has the scaled-down version of my new Carvin head in it, which is the best amp I've ever had. The DRIVE knob warms up the sound in a way the BOOST on my old GK couldn't. The only question is whether or not you get a deep enough tone from the 2x10 combo. Some say it's great for jazz, pop, slap, but doesn't get low enough for heavy rock or reggae. Adding another cab later will up the power from 400 to 600w (depending on the cab) and solve the problem, if there is one. Some people prefer the 15" version of the same combo. I myself prefer a 15" as a standalone speaker and then drop the combo on a nice, deep 2x10 for larger gigs. It's a very good combo, one of the best for the money out there. People who diss Carvin now don't have a clue about the quality of the new line. It's far better than the old line of amps.If I'm not mistaken the Redhead is about twice as much as the Carvin. It's a great amp with an extension but too bright for my tastes. For that kinda cash you could get the Carvin BX1200 (1200w) and drop it on the BRX410 NEO (1200w, 4 ohms). Members Poltergeist
for a good 5 response on a 5 stringer, i'd probably only trust a SWR Redhead...
Members JeffBass
The Redhead costs over $1600.00, 3 times the Carvin. Great amp? Yes but in a whole different league cash-wise.

I spoke with Carvin they suggested if i was to buy the BR610 I have the NEO speakers installed they have a wider and lower dynamic range i have 2 swr bottoms a 2x10 and 1x15 iwas thinking of installing the NEO speakers in the 2x10 bottom that might be the simple answer
