I had the opportunity to open for R.E.M. Great guys, they are. But that was way back in the mid-eighties, before they got HUGE.

Some minor ones: The Untouchables, The Three O'Clock, The Flirts, Plimsouls, Penetrators, The Rugburns, John Doe, Beat Farmers...

How about you? :p

John Brown's Body, Bedouin Soundclash and Eek- A- Mouse once.

Incognito and the Brand New Heavies once.

In Smooth Jazz, Marion Meadows and Brian Bromberg,

And of course, Earth, Wind and Fire!

Although, technically, I didn't open for them. I played ion a seperate tent before and after their show.

Hmm....well in the strict sense (The only band before the main act with no other bands) the biggest band I've opened for was a band most of you have never heard of: Papa Grows Funk :freak:

We were the only band on the side stage at two Dave Mathews shows over the summer, but weren't the "opener" on the main stage. We did get to meet Dave though.

I never opened for anyone, well because I suck and never had a band go any further than a Bar gig.... but I had a Part time job driving a limo from '93-2000

off and on

I drove to the late show with David Letterman/other places and got to chitchat with

Slash

Tony Bennett

Oasis

The Allman Brothers

The Spin Doctors

Megadeth

Brooks and Dunn

I am sure there were others but those were memorable....Especially Slash and Tony Bennett.

I got Slash for 3 days and it was awesome. Very cool/regular type of guy that you can hang with

Cool. Are Oasis the a-holes that everyone thinks they are?

83 or abouts. It was the Jon Brandt period,Standing On The Edge tour. Jon was a cool guy but he seemed a bit uncomfortable with it all. Rick hooked me up with Paul Hamer and he built me what could very well be the first long scale 8 string they ever produced.I will say even without Peterson they still kicked *SS! Robin Zander has one of the best voices in all of rock IMO.

Funny story,at the Johnny Winter show I was leaving to go to the parking lot and just as I went to push the backstage door open it gets pulled open from the outside and Johnny's assistant is bringing him thru the door, needless to say I plow right into Johnny damn near knocking him off his feet.Everybody around him was really pissed, but he just laughed and told me it was cool.He probably saved me from a nice little *ss whooping that nite!

I was a session player for a few years so I played with a lot of relatively big names, at least in the genre of Neo-Soul and hiphop.

Most recently (2 weeks ago), my band played an Afterparty for Everclear and Carbon Leaf. Here is a pic of Art (singer for everclear) shaking hands with my big fat stupid guitar player.

They were really cool guys and knew every coversong we played... even some of the obscure fusion stuff. Neat.

Hip hop and neo-soul? Care to share some stories?
