OT: Meal Replacement Diets...

I Bought some of these today. I was wondering though, do you think it's a bad idea to go on them while my broken bone is still healing? I've got three weeks left in a cast.

Surely it couldn't be any worse than my usual meals. I usually eat fast food, once or twice a day. The healthiest meal I have is a counter meal at the pub, (chicken burger and chips). :D:D

What exactly are you eating?

I did NutriSystem for a few months. Lost 25 lbs. Put back on some of it, but that's because my treadmill has been neglected and my gf has been visiting a LOT more...

But it has TONS of soy products and for a late-twenties male, without kids, those two do not go hand in hand. ;)

It's called Success. I think it should be alright, with y two replacement meals I will be getting 100% and 80% of my RDI of Vitamin D and Calcium respectively. :idk:

Replacement meals are just that. As long as you use them as a 'snack' you should be fine. Even if they have 20g of protein in them, a chicken breast is still going to be better for you. Your body prefers real food, but will take the substitute of what it needs if given no other choice.

Long as you eat three real meals (real meaning healthy-ish), with two replacements in between those, throw in a little exercise now and then, you'll be amazed at how much weight you will lose. Plus you'll feel better.

Ditto.

Meal Replacements should not be used to actually replace all your meals. Get whole foods and get a variety of them. Our bodies typically respond better to variety. i.e. - to get protein, don't just eat tuna. Eat tuna, chicken, cheese, beans, beef, milk, nuts, whey, pork... etc.

And stay away from the processed crap.

By the way, I don't know a whole lot about those Meal Replacements, but I doubt they contain many natural vitamins... if at all. I would assume they are all synthesized.

Meal replacements are fine. You get plenty of nutrients, vitamins, and protein with them. You actually get a better spread of protein, carbs, and fats with tons of vitamins. You could replace one or two of your meals with them and be just perfect, or you could use them as snacks.

I'm not a big fan of meal replacement bars. Only use those if you HAVE to go awhile without eating (ie. long lecture/lab for school, study in library, etc.). They have meal replacement drinks too, but those don't have high quality proteins in them. For quality protein, whey protein shakes, seafood and skinless chicken breast is where it is at.

Yeah I have just been having a shake for Brekky, and a Bar for Lunch, then a healthy (as healthy as they get) Microwave meals.

Once I'm walking again, I will be able to cook. I'm gonna get back into the habit of cooking each night. Fish and veggies and the likes.

The shakes are cheap, only $3 each. So I might keep having them for breakfast instead of cereal. They make a cappuccino one which is great.

I'm not too big a fan of the idea behind replacing meals with synthesized crap. However, you could do much worse in your situation.

Instead of eating large portions at each meal, try to have a couple "snacks" every day. Fruits and vegetables are easy to fit into your diet here.

Yeah I think that's my biggest problem. I've gotten so used to over eating. Even when I have a healthy meal, it's 2-3 times more than I need.

I'm not grossly overweight, but it won't hurt to loose some.
