So I dropped some cash on a Custom shop 59RI P-Bass.. They had to order it in..

The box was opened in front of me so I know it was new..

- pickguard was covered in finger marks (aluminium so no plastic cover).. no biggy

- blue pen mark on the back.. doesn't look like it will buff out, has stained the white blonde finish.. again, no biggy

- dust all over the tuners and fret board.. hmmm.. display?

- scuff on top.. very minor will buff out

- bridge cover holes... drilled {censored}IN crooked..

am I being too picky?

This thread is yet another reason why to say SCREW FENDER. Just go order up a Lakland or a Sadowksy or a G&L, and get a superior instrument without the BS custom-shop pricetag.

Fender's custom shop means "Basses we actually try to pay attention to while building".

I'll be taking it back today.. of all the things that bug me the bridge cover holes being crooked.. I take the covers off and all I see is crooked holes:facepalm:

I'll also add, last night i noticed lacquer along parts of the fret board like it wasn't masked off very well.. I guess I was expecting perfection too..

I'm a little gutted..

I would kill the employee that sold it to me, their whole family, and maybe even their mailman. Possibly the local 7-11 attendant that waits on them the most as well. Then, I would certainly burn down the factory for good measure.

It is really too bad you took it home. I hope you get some action out of this. Dont tell them you took the bridge covers off. Dont tell them you took anything off. Just mention you think they look crooked. The second they think you messed with it, they'll claim you wrecked your warranty and therefor wont do a thing for you.

With the dust and fingerprints it would seem to me that it was on display somewhere else too. That's not a big deal, but having it in bad shape with friggin' pen marks on that back is. Good luck taking it back. I really hope you get what you want. *crosses fingers*

Great advice. Never admit to modifying so much as the tuning on it beyond standard.
