(Finally) got to try some new '08 Am. Standard Ps

Wow!

 

I was very impressed. I played a coulple of the new '08 US Fenfers and was floored at how great they feel and sound. I haven't played a new US model since 2004 and the '08 seemed an extreme improvement. Considering the cases they now come with, the 2008 'burst and tort with RW P may have just taken over from a Skyline Glaub as my #1 P to GAS for.

 

Loved the stock PU as well.

Good to hear. With competition like Skyline, Fender has to get it's sh*t together with their Am. offerings. They should have a quality of feel and response closer to that of MusicMan rather than their own Mexican made line...and still be less expensive than a MusicMan, of course.

Over the past several years, it seems like they're coming along.

the one I played didn't feel so great but I didn't plug it in. I prefer the non gloss fretboard of the pre '08s

bingo!! I agree 100%. Until I played them this weekend I was pleased to read what they were changing, but was intending my next nice P to be a Skyline Glaub...now I am not sure. Off to Club Bass in Toronto next week to try a Glaub or two....

 

Music Man basses are insanely consistent and of high quality eh? Still a few years from planning my EBMM purchase but always impressive!
