Members solderjunkie
*****UPDATE W/ PICS***** scroll down, ladies;) My DR High-Beam flats just arrived... alas, I'm at work until 6pm so nothing to say about them yet. I took one out of the pack and looked at it... Renfield was right-on about the design. It's almost as if the string outer winding is one-piece. It's like a big stainless smooth cable. {censored}ing awesome:thu:

There is virtually no friction on them, they are so slick and fast. I can't wait for a report, I haven't talked to anyone else that has tried them yet. I am in love with them. Best flats I have ever tried.
Members Thumper
On the right bass, flats are a thing of beauty. I have flats on my MIA '62 Jazz reissue and the MIJ A/E fretless P-bass. They sound great.

Members Thumper
For me, it's a combination of feel, tone, and vibe. My Jazz with flats sounds pretty dull when soloed, but in a band mix it sits right there in the sweet spot---just the right mix of thump and growl, especially with the bridge pup volume up full and the neck at 3/4. I keep the tone cranked on both pups. I love the old-school feel, too, though glissandi get a bit warm because of the increased friction.

Members solderjunkie
WARM P-Bass Vagina...aughhh exactly! I finally got a chance to put the DR High Beam Flats on this morning... I've got to say (write) how impressed I am with the quality and workmanship of these strings. The sound is a little dry, but they are brand new so I expect them to warm-up a bit (but not too much). You can see here how the strings appear to be one-piece, but it is actually an outer winding that was compressed-in-place. The winding was then ground-down to give a smooth surface: You can see that it is a wound string by looking at the break-point on the bridge saddles: I think the gold thread-wrap was a very nice touch:) No clips until after Thanksgiving, I'll open a new thread for that:thu:

Members solderjunkie
Sweet looking string. Does anyone know how well they hold up on fretted bass? They are brand new, I've been waiting (drooling) ever since Renfield told me about them during the summer. I had to order them, since no music stores even show them in the catalogues yet. Members Renfield
You can see that it is a wound string by looking at the break-point on the bridge saddles: Interesting. So that's what the final product looks like. I can tell you, you have different strings than the prototypes I had two summers ago when I first got them. Really bums me out that I lost them now. My strings did not have the wraps like yours does, not on the break angle, not anywhere. I seriously inspected them under a light duty magnifying glass, they had no wraps at all. Numerous people will attest to this fact. Such is the life of a prototype, just because one was made that way, doesn't mean the production versions will be. They were probably too expensive or inconsistent and needed to be reworked. Maybe I didn't lose mine, maybe they vapourized. I'll find them with all my left socks. Members solderjunkie
They were right at $45 with shipping... pretty pricy, but stainless flats on a fretless should last nearly forever.
