Have they been there for a while and I am just way behind? I went in today and they were just cracking a 55-02 outta the box, nearly {censored} myself, wouldn't let me play one though for some bull {censored} reason, I'll be going back tommorow though. Moderators Kindness Posted November 20, 2008 Moderators Share Posted November 20, 2008 Tease... I was going to erase my post after I read it again. Let me see... we talked about the new Plek machine they have (http://www.lakland.com/plek.htm), which is one of the reasons they are now able to supply Guitar Center with the quantity of basses they need for their stores. There may be some change in the origin of Skyline basses. When I see information in public (I can't find any yet) I will post more about it. They're made by ESP in Japan and apparently pretty damn nice. Pricewise they fall between the Skyline and USA but they're made to the same spec as the USA. I was looking at one a while back, used basses and guitars are plentiful in Japan and theres bargains to be had.

Since they don't come through the Lakland shop, I don't really have any reasonable chance of running into one unless by coincidence. I wouldn't shy away from a Shoreline, but my personal preference is for basses that pass through the shop down the street from my house. If I ever have an issue, I can walk it over to them and get it taken care of at the source.

Members Crescent Seven
Sweet. Now I might actually get to play a Lakland, in Denver, that I can afford. It's too bad they had to go over to The Dark Side for me to be able to do it.C7

Members JeffBass
I like the Dunn, Glaub, and Jones models myself. A bud of mine bought a Skyline Glaub and it was very nice. Wish it had the graphite supports in the neck but then it wouldn't cost 850.00.
Members xOriginalNinjax
Seriously, Kindness... I'm thinking of saving up for a Lakland P. It's the only P-bass I keep coming back to that I've played and loved. but then there are so many others I'm in love with.....grrrr
Members flatcat
I played an American fretless four string and I fell in love. I went to go pull the trigger and it was gone. That is one nice bass, much nicer than my Skyline and my 55-01 is a nice bass.

Members flatcat
Sorry, I meant an American-made Lakland. A 44-94, I think. But hey! If it inspired a good idea, then right on.

Members Funkee1
Laklands are awesome. However, and I hate to be a gear snob, but if the Shorelines are made by ESP, ythen they are ESP's, not Laklands. Having said that, I'll take a Darryl Jones 5'er FTW!
