It's alright. The album is nothing special and I don't think I'll run out and grab it, but I think it's just because it sounds the same as all their other albums. It's hard to tell whether the other albums just had better songs, or if I'm growing tired of it.

Either way, I really dig their old stuff, and their bassist is a friggin' BAMF. I never see him really get any credit anywhere. Granted they're a niche band, there are plenty of metal heads on here who I haven't seen give any love.

I just saw them in Spokane a couple days ago.

Yeah - he is pretty badass. It seems like their formula is for the guitar to kind of "color" the palette - while the bass gives it "texture"

There were a couple times I initially thought the guitar was soloing - and it turned out to be the bass.

I've only heard the songs from the new album that they played in the show - so, I couldn't comment about that. Although, the show was the day the album dropped.

I'm not huge on Mudvayne, but Ryan Martinie definitely stands out in that band. In fact, he's the thing that impresses me the most about them. The guitarist, drummer, and singer are solid and okay, but Ryan has definitely got chops above his bandmates, and in my opinion should be with a better band. I'm just sayin'....

+1.

And what the {censored} happened to Mudvayne, anyway? When they first came out, they were serious badasses. Somewhere along the way their singer discovered his love for cock and has become the 21st century Rob Halford.

And don't even get me started on Avenged Sevenfold...

Maybe his balls were painted on when they first started, so when they went back to looking normal...

Chad Gray is still doing that side project Hellyeah with Vinnie Paul, right? What I've heard from them has left me a little underwhelmed. I wish Vinnie would get together a seriously kickass band again. Damn, I miss Pantera.

I liked Hell Yeah... :idk:

Ever listen to Spineshank? Checkout Silent Civilian.

I have a few SPineshanks. First impression was DAMN!! After a few listens, it just started sounding SO derivitive. Now I lump them into the same category as PM5K. Well, almost.

I picked up this Mudvayne on release day. IMHO it's their best offering to date - matured as musicians without compromising their sound/style. Ryan is fantastic as usual, Greg actually plays a solo on one track. If anything, Matt is a little more reserved in this one - he's a solid drummer really.

And Spineshank is a great band. Saw them open for Fear Factory and ran out the next day to buy an album. Good stuff.

I remember watching the movie Ghost Ship and thinking one song was really kickass and it turned out to be Mudvayne. Not usually my type of music, but they made it powerful and dramatic in a prog/metal sort of way. The bass was dominant if I remember. Outstanding.

I was blown over by their debut L.D. 50. Everything since has been meh.

As has been said, they had a great style the first time out but it got way too commercial since. That first album just had so much kickass stuff on, I was sad when they went more "traditional".

As do I. They just got repetitive to me quickly. I haven't listened in some time, I bet if I gave them a spin now it would sound fresh all over again. Doubly so since I have been OD'ing on White Zombie as is.

Really? They never got repetitive for me because all of their albums are pretty different for me. I especially love Mega Kung Fu Radio. Funk metal ftmfw!!!
