ok, ive never played in a band so i have no idea what to do or expect. i talked to someone thats starting a classic metal coverband and he wants to check me out. i already know i need to get some distortion and maybe a wah, but what other gear should i try to have. all i have as far as amps go is a 120w Behringer combo, and a 50w Crate combo. myredshoes says if i get in, then we'll look into some cabs, etc. but for an audition, would one of my combos be sufficient?

Absolutely. I once auditioned for a loud metal band with a 50W 1x10" Yorkville combo I put on a chair. I told them I had bigger gear (I did) but for convenience of the audition, I opted to just use that.

I shouldn't have I know, but I wasn't about to cab it to an audition with my stack only to hate them. Been there, done that, waste of cash.

cool. thanks guys. i told him what i had, but he was more interested in what effects i had, none at the moment, but i will be looking out for some distortion cheap definately. he wants a bass player with alot of distortion, or something to act as filler, only wants 1 guitarist, doing alot of lead and bass doing most of the rhythm, more than just the traditional 1-note-at-a-time type bass line, which most of my own stuff is more guitarish than bassy anyway.
