buzzing with Ibanez 305 DX

I have an '99 Ibanez 305 DX soundgear bass with the "phat active eq" option.

the bass has a wicked buzzing problem. it appears the buzzing goes away when I turn the tone knob all the way counterclockwise.

It seems like the pickups are picking up noise from light sources in the room and then the preamp in the bass is amplifying that noise and the result is the buzzing I hear from my amp.

I've used multiple amps and cables with the same bass and always had the same problem. So I'm assuming it is the bass itself.

the buzzing seems to depend on the room I'm in and what lights are on and also the direction I'm facing in the room greatly effects the degree of buzzing.

once I tried connecting a copper wire between the bridge of the guitar and a cold water pipe in the house to ensure the bridge was grounded and this helped dramatically.

the electronics cavity is shielded with conductive paint and as far as I can tell the pickups are passive and single coil. I was considering getting some humbucking pickups from EMG or Bartolini.

I am looking for any suggestions on pickups selection and ways to eliminate buzzing. thanks

sounds like you've got a problem with the ground circuit. start by checking the ground lug on the output jack and make sure your connection there isn't broken.

when you connected your bridge to ground and the problem got better - that tells you it's an issue with the grounds in the bass.so it either gonna be poor grounds from the factory or a broken wire ( maybe between the bridge and the pots or where ever they have the ground points connected in the control cavity).
