Christmas Theme Party: Ghetto Prom

Okay, so a friend of a friend and the original friend all know a gay couple who I'm told throw the best parties ever, and I'm invited. The theme is "Ghetto Prom" and anything goes.

I'm drawing inspiration from this:

http://www.byroncrawford.com/2005/05/ghetto_prom_pic.html

Budget is extremely limited, but I really need to rock this look, because I figure no matter what I dream up, a white middle-aged straight guy can't possibly come up with something more outrageous than a gay couple. I'm outgunned here,, and need help.

Any and all suggestions will be considered.

(yes, this is a serious request)

In one of my classes last semester, one of my classmates used some similar pictures to illustrate "Ghetto Fabulous" parties during her socio-cultural presentation. All of us, including the presenter, found the idea in extremely poor taste.

I wouldn't attend a party like this.

I'm 98% positive our moms shopped at the same discount department stores, and we had the same barber.

Hey!!!!!

I got that reversible polyester suit (one side solid black, one side herringbone) at a high-end suit discounter!!!

Albuquerque used to only have 2 'black" barber shops back then. Jones and Jackson.

Jones- great haircuts when you walked out, but the next time you combed your fro, you couldn't get it to look anything even remotely like what you looked like walking out of the barber shop1

Jackson- great haircuts, but they always took too much off!!

I had been to Jones Barber shop two days before the class picture appt. and I did the best I could! I was fly as hell two days before!

Testify:cry:

I had a reversible polyester jacket....brown on one side, that 70's cream color on the other. The pants were cream, so you wore it 'matching' for "formal" occasions, and contrasting for more "casual" gigs. Yeah...I was 16 and living in lower middle class hell....I had all manner of affairs to attend. I can remember how proud Mom was that she got it at Alexander's for, get this, $6.

Two barbers....Paul's Salon:rolleyes:, which was next town over, charged a bundle for me to get a haircut that would make me look any way I wanted...as long as that meant "guido in a Monte Carlo going 90mph". Since I had a half-assed whiteboy fro' (my hair wouldn't "feather" like all the pretty boys' did) and no money, Pauls was out except for special occasions. I don't recall any special occasions when I was a kid.

The other shop was the place that gave $1 haircuts to seniors. You can only imagine what a kid came out looking like.

When you do, your life will never be the same.

haha, I'm sure.

Either way, I know anyone calling something in "poor taste" makes me just want to do it even more. If something is politically incorrect, it becomes 20x more appealing to me. Everyone has such a stick up their ass, I have to balance it out.

I'm totally psyched for this. The parties these two guys throw are the stuff of legend around here. I'm as un-PC as it gets...I despise and mock everyone equally. Well, not true...I mock myself the most.

I believe the term "ghetto" transcends race.

Maybe it's a regional thing. Growing up in the South, the only time I heard it used was in reference to non-whites. Maybe times have changed, and I'm not with the times.

Regardless, my personal belief is that a party like that is in very poor taste and I, nor any of my close friends, would attend. I also wouldn't attend some sort of "Hillbilly Redneck Prom" either.

You meant "neither I" of course.

If you're so socially sensitive, perhaps you should consider whether commenting where none was invited is appropriate. It's okay to offend me, though, right?
