Members Crescent Seven Posted December 3, 2008 Author Members Posted December 3, 2008 Went to Keystone today and took a good look at Independence Bowl from the top of Dercum Mountain. It's always been there, I just never noticed it because, well, it was never hittable until now. That video does absolutely no justice to how big and steep it is. I pretty much refuse to ride it unless there's an obscene amount of powder on it, it's wicked. Did 9 top to bottoms today before my legs couldn't take anymore. That's a little over 20 miles on a snowboard. Awesome.C7

Hope I can make my way further east so i wont be stuck at Powderhorn

Hope I can make my way further east so i wont be stuck at Powderhorn Yeah, the vids are goofy with the Warren Miller skiing stuff, but it's not that exciting to watch a snowboarder point his nose straight down the fall line and make one gigantic, arcing turn. And it makes for a short video. Second week of January? What days? The band is in the studio the weekend of the 17th, but I can probably meet up with you one of those weekdays. If you can get to Keystone, we can carve up the Outback. I just did a mapquest of Grand Junction to Keystone. It's 175 miles. You have your work cut out for you. C7

Members Crescent Seven Posted December 3, 2008 Author Members Posted December 3, 2008 omgomg ( Anyone ever ski Berthoud pass? So mad that place went under. I learned to snowboard on Berthoud Pass, before they re-opened it. What a kick ass mountain that was. It's way too dangerous to ride backcountry for most of the year. I took my chances 150 times up there and survived, I'll respectfully decline to ride there again unless they build another ski area there. Hit me up when you get to Copper. If you want to ride Breck, Keystone, or A-basin, I can get you discounts with my pass. C7
Members Crescent Seven Posted December 3, 2008 Author Members Posted December 3, 2008 Almost stopped and hiked it one day a few years ago.........then my lazy low-altitude ass drove on to Winter Park...... You can ride that pass without hiking an inch. Stop at the top, and off to your right, there's a gully. Drop in there, and follow the established path. It will take you down to the road and you can hitchhike back up. You can do the same thing on the other side of the parking lot, but that run is substantially shorter. There are only a few places to ride on that pass that are safe without partners, beacons, and shovels, the whole bit. I can map them all out for you, I don't want anyone to suffer that fate.C7

Hoping like hell to go out ther this year with the girlfriend if the finances allow...... Right on. Yeah, some of the best hike in riding in the state is on Berthoud Pass, I've had some epic runs up there. I've also been stranded up there, and stuck in traffic overnight because a slide blocked the road. Back in 1982, my father was part of the team that extracted a fully loaded snowplow that had been abandoned on the road because it had broken down. Thankfully for the driver, because an avalanche came down an hour or so later and blew that snowplow off the road and down a 1200' cliff. Without even touching it, just the wind generated in front of it. It used to be cool when they allowed snowmobiles up there, but the snowmobiles are why so many people have died there. Basically now, if the avalanche danger is really high, the snow is too deep to hike in anyways. But not always, those windblown cornices come down every once in a while... Here's some pics from Berthoud of avalanches: Berthoud is a pretty tame drive these days since they widened it and smoothed out a few of the turns, but that pass is no joke. C7

I will most likely leave the following Monday barring a severe hang over. I know I have to go to Denver for pickup at least one time. I might be able leave a couple days early, ride, pick up and go back by the 13 ...BAH i'm no good at scheduling. I hear the local resorts are getting dumped pretty decent, but REALLY I hope I can at least get 1 day of back country riding Anyways, I'll have my computer and should be able to get in touch

I'll get back to Denver from Ireland on the evening of the 9th, late. MAYBE that Sunday I could go up. You have to drive to Denver to pick something up? That's lame, Denver is 4 hours in good weather. That time of year, you could find yourself stuck in D-town for 3 days. If that happens, I got your back. Unless I can't fly into Denver, which would be even MORE lame. C7

C7 Ah not a problem...I'd be pretty disappointed if you WERE in shape for riding Yea they have relatives somewhere near Denver with some antique family heirloom bull{censored} that they refuse to ship. But I get paid by the mile + hour for all driving I do, so getting "stuck" in Denver wouldn't be all bad Now that I think about it, I need to visit a friend in Delta (IDK how far east that is). He crashed his dirt bike and his femur went through his hip. Doctors told him he can't walk on it for 3 months or something, which = no work. And not to do anything more than walk for a year which = a lot less work Anyways, hope something works out, if not I'm sure ill be back in summer

I like that area, if I had to move there I wouldn't be sad. Sorry about your homey, hope he recovers quickly. If you come to town in the summer, give me plenty of notice and set aside some time. We'll go camping and off-roading, and fishing if you're into it. I have extra tents, sleeping bags, everything. Summertime is the right time in CO, man. Come in late July or early August and I'll put together a party trip to Twin Lakes with my homeys, guaranteed you'll have a {censored}ing blast. This is an album of pics from our Labor Day trip to Twin Lakes this year. Either that, or show up here on the 1st of July and plan on being here through the holiday weekend. My birthday is the 3rd of July and I turn 30 in 2009, so you can bet that I'm going to be in the mountains, somewhere really special to me, with as many cool mother{censored}ers as I can assemble. That particular invitation goes out to any one of you guys that wants to take a trip to CO next year. All you need to bring is $$ to pay for your food and beer, and gas, I'll take care of everything else. Tents, sleeping bags, coolers, flashlights, fishing poles, whatever. In case you haven't noticed, I LOVE my mountains and I'm so, so happy to share all the great stashes I have with people from out of town, I love meeting new people, especially guys that I have a rapport with here. Ask Texas Noise Factory; I picked him up from his hotel and drove him straight to Red Rocks, then up to the top of a mountain with a view of the entire city of Denver. If I had had all day, I would have taken him to the Tunnel 3 waterfalls (a series of 12 waterfalls that you can climb that's 10 minutes from my house and nobody knows about), then to the Conqueror Mines, then to Berthoud Pass, then...it's endless. I have the backs of any one of you guys, even the dudes I've disagreed with on politics; if you're going to be in Colorado, PM me and get my phone number. Even if you're too busy to meet for beers, if you have a problem or a question, you can call me anytime and I'll help you out. A place to crash in an emergency, a rescue mission if you get stranded, whatever. If you're in CO, you're my guest and I'll do anything I can. C7
