Members lolalola
Hi guys, I'm new to bass guitar, and I'm torn between two second hand amps. Which is a better amp (both are about the same price, both good condition) : 1) Trace Elliot 7215 SMC 300 watt bass combo 2) Ashdown Mag C410T-300, 300 watts/4X10 cabinet I need to make a decision pretty soon! - any ideas? Members rovito
Both of these amps are good. They will sound very different from each other. You need to decide which sound you prefer. I prefer the Ashdown sound with the 410 myself. I also think you will be able to hear yourself better with the Ashdown.
Members Zebra
One's a 410 and ones a 115. That difference should be pretty significant in making your decision.
Members fretless
the mag is the cheaper line , I would go Trace . Those old Trace amps are Awesome . Powerful with strong, ballsy rock tones . I like Ashdown too , damn fine amps .
Members JeffBass
I like the Trace too, great tone and very loud. Plenty of definition.
Members lolalola
I want a big, shoegazey, Phil Spector sound. Does that help anyone...?
Members lolalola
Or rather, the band does. I'm just the bassist.

Members lolalola
It's from about 99/2002 I think ... is that old?

Members Renfield
1999 - 2000 I meant... I'm not a historian by any stretch, but I think that makes it "old." By old, I mean back when Trace was still Trace, and not Gibson who bought the brand then ruined it.
Members lolalola
It's sounding like the Trace is gonna do it for me .... guys, you're all great! Unless someone tells me otherwise very soon, it's gonna be the Trace!

The old Trace's are some great amps. yeah , Gibson bought them out and they stopped production for awhile . Kaman bought them , then Gibson and then Peavey . Those amps are part of the old UK line and not their flagship but I like the GP7 line , and all the others on up , damn good amps , don't forget all those killer tube amps as well . All the lads from Trace went to work for Ashdown .

Members Super Bass
Some of the people behind Ashdown were also involved in Trace Elliot. But I don't think they've matched the sound in Ashdown.

Members RSBro
Whatcha gonna do with the Aggie? Depends. I really like it, so the Trace is going to have to be a bad mother to replace it. I probably will hold on to both for a while at least, though. The Trace was just too good to pass up, whether I hold it or not.

Members RSBro
Let me know... I really want to see if I can swing it to afford both. I've kinda become lazy with the ultra-quickness but depth and booty of the Aggy. Gives you best of both worlds, really.
Members slapthefunkyfour
ok. This is my Trace. Vintage 1997. I also have the matching "midbox" or "brightbox" I think they're called. I need to get a better picture of just the amp without that ugly guy in front of it.
