Members OMSON
What do you think about sound of oryginal 3-coil Music Man ceramic pickup vs Seymour Duncan SMB-5a (3-coil alnico V) and Nordstrand MM5.3 (3-coil alnico V)? The first one I still have in my bass, Nordstrand MM4.2 I can hear on basstasters.com but can't find any samples of Seymour Duncan SMB-5a (3-coil alnico V). I want change my ceramic pickup to alnico V. Please help me:confused:
Members ToeJamFootball
Buy them all, and try them all out. It's the only sure way to figure out which one you want...
Members bassplayer7770
Don't the StingRay 5 basses come with Alnico pickups? Ceramic pickups are stock in the Sterling basses.
Members bassplayer7770
On a side note, a friend of mine has an older StingRay 4, and he put a Duncan pickup in it. He is very happy with the change.

I know it from EB support - all std SR5's build between '94-'06 has ceramic pickup and dedicated preamp (not the same like for alnico V). EB has back to alnico V again in march this year. Members bassesofalessergod
to me, there is no reason to change out the stock MM pickup unless it dies.

Ofcourse, you heard differences beetween ceramic and alnico V SR5's and it's explain your advice? Nevermind, now I'm interesting about Status Graphite MM pickup too. Somebody heard it in action and can tell me something?
