We just did a refy and, as we were signing the papers, the agent was telling us about a 2/2 in Union City that closed for $78k. She said that it wasn't a dump either.

Skeptical.

You think an agent would admit it's a dump? :poke:

my thoughts exactly.....

There's plenty of nice places to get for $70k currently... It's just not going to be in a sprawling metropolis or have 10,000 sq ft. There are plenty of nice suburbs under $100k.

Her only job is to drive docs to people's houses and get them signed. She's an independent contractor, having no affiliation with any real estate agency or mortgage broker -- she had no reason to lie. A keyboardist buddy of mine is an agent for a bank, his job is to clear out foreclosures. He's seeing some houses go for scary cheap down here.

if it were possible, in someplace i'd want to live, i'd be moving home next week.....

pay cash outright for the house and have enough $$$ left over to live for a while without stressing getting a job right away.

Soooooooooo tempting.

How are ya with heat? Job market is better here than anywhere else and there are plenty of carpenters around due to Hurricane Ike work to have the top sill of the front door raised so you could fit in. :thu:

Hey hey now... You can get them in my area for that.

I was going to look at this one:

and this one:

Which are both around 70 grand. and I live here:

I sure as hell wouldn't be moving to Houlton, though. Out in the middle of nowhere...
