Members cdb
Ok, I have had it with the tonepump in my czech Rebop. The {censored}ing thing died in the middle of a song during a gig after being problematic for the last coupla weeks. Last year I replaced the EMG HZ's with Barts. Now I would like to make the bass passive. The bass has 4 knobs, and is currently 2 vol pots (one for each pup) one treb boost and one bass boost. I would like to keep the current configuration, rather than having a blend pot for the pups. I cannot find a schematic on the Bartolini site. Anybody got a spare schematic lying around? Anybody? Bueller?
Moderators Kindness Posted December 12, 2008 Moderators Share Posted December 12, 2008 If it is passive, you won't have treble and bass boosts. You can do two volumes and two tones. If that's what you're looking for, you'll likely find a clear schematic on the Seymour Duncan site.
Members RSBro
Mike Kroeger's sig Spector is passive. You could ask those guys how they do it on his? Worth a shot. So your preamp actually died died? Not the battery just running out?

I refuse to purchase one with it installed. Let us know how the passive conversion goes! I've heard of it being done, but never actually had any experience with them. I refuse to purchase one with it installed.Let us know how the passive conversion goes! I've heard of it being done, but never actually had any experience with them. Well, I did it this weekend. A big THANK YOU very much to Kindness for the schematic. It was fairly easy, even for a {censored} head amateur elctrician like me. My only challenge was figuring out which parts of the jack to wire the grounds on to, but after trial and error it worked. I bought 4 500k pots at GC - 2 All parts, 2 gibsons, because thats all they had in stock. (Radio Shack used to actually sell electronic parts, but those days are gone. The stupid kids at the counter didnt know what a potentiometer was.) I used the Gibsons for tone, the All Parts for volume. I had 2 capacitors of unknown value and origin from some other ancient project lying around, so I used them. And I had to drill the holes out very slightly so the pot shafts would fit. After that, easy as pie. The tone of the Barts is fundamentally the same without the TonePump pre-amp, and quieter, of course-- but it seems smoother, and milder, a little more "civilized" and less aggressive, but not dramatically so, which is fine for a fretless strung with flats. I am sure rounds would yield more growl, but I don't need it. It actually sounds best with both pups dimed, and both tones at about 3/4, but I havent played it with the band yet. I am very glad I did it... the real test comes at practice Tuesday night, and the gig on thurs... thanks again Mr Kindness.

Members cdb
You will see from the schematic that the ground lug connects to the inner sleeve of the jack. Rather than trial and error, you can actually look at the jack to figure out which lug connects to the sleeve. My pleasure. well, the challenge there was the stereo jack-- there were 2 (two) lugs in addition to the one for the outer sleeve. I first connected a ground from each pup to each lug. Only one pup worked. Then I connected both grounds to the working lug, and both pups worked.
