Had a fun gig last night!

I played a Christmas party for the Kiwanis Club last night, at a country club north of the Rose bowl (La Canada Flintridge, for those of you who know Southern Cali). Long drive in LA Traffic, but beyond that......

Anyway, Chain Reaction's regular drummer wasn't available. Fortunately, the sub was a friend of mine who I love playing with! He looks and plays a little like Eli Konikoff (sp?)who was a member of both Spyro Gyra and The Rippingtons, so it was ajoy to work with him.

First song, my G string (the one on the bass, not my drawers!:D) pops, and I have no spares. so I have to do the whole gig with BEAD. Fortunately, the first set was all standards and Christmas songs. Thanks to the drummer, I have never had more fun playing "Jingle Bells". We played it as a walking swing tune (think Vince guaraldi) it swung so hard, all I could do was laugh!

Then they fed us. I They brought us this butterflied chicken breast with a cream sauce, and about 6 vegetables, and two potatoes. Remember that VISA commercial where the couple says "It looks like elf food!"....It was like that!

Then we got into the dance stuff, and they got up and boogied from the very first song! They had a guitar player in the Kiwanis who has his own band. He sat in and was really good!

All in all, a fun night. I didn't even notice the missing string.........much!

Had another good one tonight. Bought two sets of new striengs, and replaced G. I broke an A in the first set, and had to change it. As I was digging through my gig bag, looking for the new sets of strings, I found a brand new set I could have used last night! Oh well.... The party tonight was on a Yacht in Newport harbor, and the crowd were people under 60, so there was a lot of scenery!!

BTW, why the heck are you breaking so many strings?

+1, and was thinking the same thing - although I don't slap and pop, I can honestly say I've never broken a bass string... I change 'em out on a regular basis, use my amp for the heavy lifting, and *most* of the time use a light-medium attack...

I'm glad the gigs went well, though - sounds like a good time...

I hadn't changed them in a while, and as others have stated, I am a slapper/ popper. I have noticed that whenever I change just one string, the others start breaking like dominoes. If I had more time yesterday, I'd have changed them all.
