Members likeweeds
also, a couple years back i got a sunn 215 (200s model). it came with JBL d130s, which is more or less, the guitar model of that speaker. i blew those out pretty quick so i ordered some (really {censored}ing expensive) d140f's which are the bass model. they used to slap pretty hard and finally they just gave out and stopped making any noise. i have the same problem with the 15" in my svt-1540. the stock (eminence i believe) 15" in the ampeg stopped working so i threw in one of the d140fs and that stopped working as well. i was never pushing either too hard, especially not the 1540. through the years i was using a v4 and an acoustic 370. now, i'm not too savvy on speaker rewiring so this could all be in my fault. how would i check/know the difference between a ruined voice coil or anything else? i'm out two bass cabs now and i really need to salvage either, or both, for as cheaply as possible. the cones on all of the speakers are fine. Members Super_Donut_Man
BUMP, I know there are some people here who are quite intelligent on these matters. I'd hate to see this thread go unanswered. Have you tried using the cabs with different heads? All the 1/4 jacks are in working condition? stupid questions, I know, but sometimes its the little things.

Members misterhinkydink
Which amp were you using when they blew? If you put an ohmmeter across the speaker terminals it will read infinite on an open coil.
Members NineMinuteNap
You can check to see if the speakers are moving, and are in phase, by touching the terminals of a 9V battery across a speaker cable and checking to see if all the speakers move in the same direction. If you have a multimeter, you could check the resistance of the speakers / cabinets. If I remember correctly, it won't match the impedance of the cab, but it shouldn't be zero or infinite (shorted or broken wiring) Have you looked at the wiring? Since it sounds like the speakers should be pretty tough, I'm wondering if it might be a bad/broken solder joint.
Members bnyswonger
D140s are great speakers, but they're also friggin' old. Slapping produces a lot of transients and really spiky output - I'm guessing you're frying voice coils. Try moving the cones back and forth with a spread out hand through their excursion - if they're locked or binding all you can do is recone. As much as I hate limiters, you probably would benefit from one.
