So I was reading about Filter...

Death Hands

As in the band, and the controversy over their single "Hey, Man (Nice Shot)", and I started reading up on Budd Dwyer...

And then I saw the video of Budd's, uhm, statement.

Holy {censored}.

EDIT: Yeah, if you go looking for the video, watch out. Graphic violence, etc etc. I'm sorry. I was a little bit shocked when I posted.

link?

{censored} no.

It happened in 1987. 3 years before I was rolling out of the womb...

I'm still just, shocked. I'm surprised it's so, forgotten. I mean, that's a big deal... I bet I'm one of the few people in my age group that knows about that {censored}.

I did before, but that video... I'm still dazed.

Google his name and the YT and wiki will be one and two, it answers everything, on camera vid and all.

I remember when that happened. A ton of people bagged on Filter because they thought it was about Cobain.

I've always heard that, but I saw an interview where they were like, no.

But Budd Dwyer... that seems like a song premise to me.

That's {censored}ed, man. Reading up on this... It's crazy.

EDIT:

I still see no correlation between it, Dwyer or Cobain... The song itself, could be a tribute to anything, anyone.

Yeah, rather unfortunate, but not at all surprising it has since been under rug swept. It's a stain on the party, they don't want to remember it.

Quite the mess a real gun makes on a real head though, and the speed in which the body drops... take that Hollywood, this is how it is supposed to look, pay attention. :poke:

Yeah, but I mean, in its own way, it's almost like a red flag to society.

I don't know, man.

I'm all, empathic, so after seeing that {censored}, I feel personally responsible.

Meh, maybe I am just too desensitized or something. It didn't faze me in the slightest to watch it. Two girls one cup freaked me out far more than that did.

The summary is he talks for about 30 seconds, then pulls out a revolver talks for a few secs and then puts it in his mouth and pulls. There's a quiet pop and he drops like a rock. You don't even see blood, spray or anything really until the last second when they zoom in on his head and you see (unbloodied) hair lifted up like a toupee and a load of blood from his nose, then it ends.

Yeah, I found the video, but as soon as I realized what it was gonna be I closed it. Some heads up that it's gonna be somebody killing himself might be nice.

I was in college in PA when that happened. Several PA TV stations covered that press conference live during the day. Dwyer was going to prison for a long time, and everyone knew it.

Several more stations played the clip in full on the news that night.

Still shocking, 21 years later.

The first time I ever saw that clip, I was 15 and at a concert at a small theater in Denver. The band was called Brutal Juice, and they played that clip in a loop for their entire set. I didn't think much of it until I mentioned it to my brother.

That's when he showed me Traces of Death.

Oh {censored}.

I mean, when I was a bit younger, my own cousin bled out in my arms.

A couple of years ago, my great uncle on my mom's side shot himself in the room next to me while we visited the family. I was the first to see that, just seconds later.

But for whatever reason, this clip and the story behind has just gotten to me, man.

Yeah, it's one thing to watch it on TV in the safety of your living room. When it's the real deal, it shakes you to the core.

Yeah. Those are images that are, BURNED into my mind. Especially my cousin. Not so much the events, but those last "frames" of them. I don't know if you've experienced that, but it's terrible.

That still doesn't explain why seeing Budd go his way has shook me up. I guess he kinda reminds me of my great uncle.

There are some things seared into my brain, not quite as close to me as yours were, but equally gruesome. 10 years on and the worst one is still as vivid as the day it happened.

My father had something like that happen to him, and it spelled the end of my family. He has never been the same, and it was 22 years ago. I talked to my mom about it today, as a matter of fact. He changed that day, and has never regained himself from it.

I watched it until he pulled out the heavy manilla envelope and then stopped. Seeing something like that is not on my list of things to do...

ever.

Watched it. But won't watch 2 girls 1 cup.

There is value in seeing, and understanding, how devastating and irrevocable suicide is. It's the easy way out, right? But they never think about how their actions will affect everyone around them.

It's cowardice of the utmost level.

Whereas, there's absolutely no value in watching 2 girls 1 cup. Unless you're a very sick, demented, troubled person. And for those who actually get off watching that 2G1C crap.... YOU need the gun.
