Members Rowka
I'm interested in a USB keyboard controller. Probably 49 keys, but maybe 25 will work too. Anyone able to recomend one to get, or oneti stay away from? I already have the Korg padKontrol, so I don't need one with the pads included. Sub $100, if possible. Members Super Bass
M-Audio Keyrig 49. I have one, it's awesome.
Members catphish
I have an M-Audio one as well. Works great. There's not much too it.
Members Goofball Jones
I'm getting the Kurzweil PC3. For all the things it does, they list it as a controller for some reason. A tad over the $100 price point your shooting for though.
Members Rowka
Great That's the one I'm looking at. The KeyRig 49, that is.
Members DevilRaysFan
Depends on how many keys you need The M-Audio stuff is great, a big +1, but you added sub $100. The Keyrig 49 is 49keys for about $150. You said 49 keys so this would be the one For ~$100 - $150 or so, you can find a 61-key Behringer UMX61. Its not M-Audio, but its in your price range

Members Renfield
M-Audio Keyrig 49. I have one, it's awesome. They has a new series out that is much better. I was looking at the Keyrig 25 until I saw this: MIDI controller with 8 programmable knobs AND 8 programmable drum pads.
Members Rowka
Music123 has it for $99, too. They also have 15% off. Ren, I saw that too. I really don't need the drum pads.

Fair enough. Having tried both the Keyrig25, 49 and Axiom25 there is differences between them all. In reference to the Keyrig series... the 25 and 49 are usually the same price, or damn close... think there is a reason? There is. The keys on the 49 are semi transparent they are so thin, flimsy and weak. I felt like I'd break them in the first week, and I play (program) with one finger most of the time. The 25 has far better keys, and the Axiom kills it yet again. I looked at the Axiom for the drum pads and bought it for the keys.
Members Super Bass
I have my keyrig 49 several months. It's still working. Yeah, it's not all fancy with extra buttons and stuff but it has what you need in a keyboard controller. The keys are fine to me.
Members bleepo
I have the keyrig 25. I don't like it. I'm not a good player, but the keys have no feel to them.
Members Rowka
I gave it some more thought, and decided against the controller. I have an old Roland XP-80 that I can just hook up through midi as a controller. I was hoping for something smaller as my music workspace is getting kinda cramped, but it may give me some motivation to clean things up and get organized. right

Members slapthefunkyfour
Rowka, I have an old Midiman keystation 61 that I'm thinking of selling. If you are interested, let me know. I'll sell it to you for next to nothing.
Members Rowka
Thanks, STFF, but that's not small enough to change from the XP-80.
Members thelurker
I recommend that you go try out a number of these. I've thoroughly disliked the action on many of the cheaper controllers. I'd be sure you at least try what you get or have a decent return period on anything you buy. I don't have much opinion on the M-Audio synth type keys, but I HATED their "weighted" key keyboard. It was waaaaay to springy for me.
Members Rowka
Well, I went to the music store this afternoon and I have to agree with Ren. The keyrig 49 really felt cheap and toy like. The Oxygen was much better and the Axiom was even better still. I did not buy and will hook up the Roland, but I'm glad I didn't order the keyrig. Members Dead but Dreaming
Well the Oxygen and the Axiom SHOULD feel better, they're twice the price... I picked up my KeyRig 49 for $90 or so. It comes in at a great price and it will do all you ask of it. No, it doesn't feel like a real piano. Very rarely do I jump on the keyboard
