Members nAmzrTakin
I'm upgrading my MIM Fender Jazz in the new year. I come before you to humbly ask for advice. I've narrowed my choices down to 2 different types of Seymour Duncan pups. I'll be damned if I can decide though. On the one hand we have the Quater Pound Jazz pickup. Looks cool, sounds great and it's passive. This option means very little actual modification on my bass. I already have the ports for these pickups so basically they just have to be wired in. The other option I'm looking at is going all out. For this I'm looking at the Ceramic Musicman pickups . Now to do this I'll need to get the ports routed, I'll need a new scratch plate and it'll probably cost me a pretty penny. Either way I'm not cnsidering doing this myself. I'll get a tech to do it. Let me know what you think.
Members PaulyWally
How about a 3rd option: A Jazz PUP in the neck position, and a Musicman PUP in the bridge position? This will save you from modding the neck PUP cavity and pickguard. If I was looking at routing, this is probably the way I'd go. But I like that kind of PUP config. I like a single coil neck PUP above and beyond a humbucker-style neck PUP.
Members bbl
If you want MM pickups, get a MM. So, I vote for the SDs. But I really think you should look at Aeros, Fralin, Nordstrand, DiMarzio Ultra Jazz. Just my 2 cents. Of course, I shouldn't even answer without knowing... what kind of tone are you going for? What kind of music do you play? Edit: I see your MySpace. Go with the SD QPs! They're hot pickups, IIRC. Then, if you don't like 'em, you can go another route (pun intended ). I love hiking in the woods, but now I'm a little frightened:
Members Crescent Seven
Go with the Jazz set and save yourself a bunch of money. The difference in tone isn't going to be worth the cost IMO.C7

However the hum cancelling of the Jazz pups comes from using them in tandem. Would the Musicman cancel hum on the Quater pounder?

Members xOriginalNinjax
Go with either the SD's or Dimarzio's. Don't re-route the bass. My favorite bass has a SD alnico MM in the bridge and the vintage jazz in the neck, and is AMAZING, but my jazz that has the Vintage Modified pickups in it sounds close enough (and has a similar output level). I say try to find a set of pickups from a Vintage Modified Squier jazz, they kick BUTT (and can be had cheap)

Members nAmzrTakin
Looks like that's the go. Musicman bridge Quater pound neck. Damn i can't wait to put this into action. I looked them up. I'm looking at about $400 for the MM and $150 - $300 for the Jazz pup. Worst case $700 for parts, probably another $200 - $300 for labour I can pull it off for about a grand. good............................good. I could do that. But how many people have Laklands and how many have a Fender Jazz with this pup config? Also how many left handed Lakland basses do you think there are in Adelaide, South Australia. And finally, I have nver played anything that suits me better than my Fender. If I ever find something to beat it I'll let you know.

Members nAmzrTakin
sexeh Are you just trying to be different for the sake of being different? No I'm being different for the sake of maintaining my current playability while improving and upgrading my bass. You didn't get that from my posts? That pick is what I'm talking about. Now imagine it black with a white scratch plate.

Uhh, that's a good question. It's a MIM Fender Jazz. I'd say Rosewood, it's dark redish brown.

Members Jazz Ad
1/4lbsers are nice. Now if you consider going the MM style route, do yourself a favor and get a Cort GB94 instead of upgrading your bass. Seriously. You will thank me.
