Moderators Kindness Posted December 20, 2008 Moderators Share Posted December 20, 2008 Used to be alright/good. Once made a great album, now occasionally make a great song. Need to disappear soon or reverse their direction towards self destruction.
Members Thunderbroom
I liked them better when they were called Uncle Tupelo.
Members y-o-y
I don't really have an opinion on them. In the future, please use the following format for thread titles regarding bands: While we are at it, [band] sucks/is great. Thanks for your cooperation in this matter. Members Ender_rpm
I liked them better when they were called Uncle Tupelo. Ha. + 1 Farrar's later work is what got me into Alt country. I tried to get into Wilco, but ... blah. Son Volt and Farrar's solo stuff is pretty good though.

Members collinwho
I love them. Particularly A.M. and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. I consider Being There among my favorite lyrical albums ever, which is funny because I consider a lot of Tweedy's lyrics laughably bad.

My Best Girl Tear Don't Matter Much The War (I was at this exact gig, I couldn't find a studio version of the track) Hmm. For some reason I never really thought of Murder by Death as alt country, although I can see how some of it could be classified that way. Of course, there is a decent chunk of Wilco that shouldn't be classified as alt country, either. Oh, and the best alt country band ever is The Jayhawks

I only have their first two albums, but Like The Exorcist... is the one I find myself listening to a lot more often.

They left him in the dust. I made a point of finding out who they were and seeking out their music.

Ghost is Born left me a little flat at first, but after hearing some of those songs live in person and on the Kicking Television live set, my appreciation for it has grown a whole lot more for it. I actually think at the moment That Yankee Hotel Foxtrot may be my least favorite despite containing a couple of my favorite songs. Summerteeth is awesome, Mermaid Avenue with Billy Bragg is growing on me but, its definitely towards the bottom. And of course A.M. is great, but I don't feel its aging particularly well. Mermaid Ave is Woody Guthrie songs, Wilco/Billy Bragg are just interpreting them. I think its ok, but I definitely wouldn't use it to judge the band. My biggest complaint about Wilco is that I went to a show on their last tour and there were almost no females there. It was a complete sausage fest. Members Oddsock
Several friends of mine like Wilco. I really tried to like Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, but I just can't get into it. It's not terrible, it just doesn't make me want to listen to it again.
Members Pickdust
Being There (1996) is one of my favorite albums. Covers a lot of ground and ends with a reprise..........which I think is cool. Haven't really listened to any thing since then.

I went to one of the shows last February when they were doing their winter residency, the crowd was 50/50 men/women. Heck I just went on a date last night with a girl who is a big fan. Members MikeMess
I'll take Murder By Death instead, thanks.Until Morale Improves, The Beatings Will Continue I LOVE Murder By Death!!! I always refer to them as well arranged spaghetti-western alternative. They're great live and their cello player is HAWT!!! She undulates with her cello when she plays and gives all the guys shivers. ...oh and Wilco is aight... sometimes. I'm either not old enough or bathe too much to like them I think. Members seraphim7s
I thnk I probably enjoyed A Ghost is Born more than any of their other albums. But then again I'm a a big fan of Neu! and Can so I'm tilted in the Krautrock direction.
