Members FebruaryStars
So I'm having a new cabinet designed to my tastes... I'm going with 2x8 and 2x10 in the same cab fully baffled and some nice large front ports. The goal is to get the punchyness of my SWR Henry the 8X8 and add some extra low end response and definition by adding the 10s. As well as adding a little more portability to my rig. So I'm looking for speaker suggestions. Each should handle no less than 125w. Rite now I'm to mid range heavy and cut through with no problem. However, I don't seem to have that extra oomph to really suit a hard rock band with 2 guitars. I'm not an Ampeg fan but that's more of an amp thing. I play a pre Fender SWR SM500 for the clean tone and definition it offers. I play a Musicman Sterling... Love the mids just need some more low... Thanx in advance. Members burdizzos
Typically, you don't just build a cab and then pick out the speakers. It's usually done the other way around so that they design criteria for the speakers can be utilized in the cab build. You're using assumptions on how the speakers are going to sound without taking anything beyond the sound of a Henry 8x8 into account. How many cubic feet are you going to have in this box per driver? Members FebruaryStars
The shop is waiting for me to pick out some drivers before the final dimensions are set. I'm not just throwing some speaker into a box... All I have rite now is a high and width the internal volume will be adjusted by the depth of the cabinet to fit the drivers I choose. The Henry the 8X8 is just what I'm using now and an example of the sound I'm looking for I know it won't sound like that cabinet. That's why I'm asking for some suggestions. Members Bryan316
this sounds foolish to me. Not a single piece woulda been designed or cut until I got all components 100% figured out and calculated for. I don't trust this. Who are you getting to build this? So, what are the set dimensions? Why do you want to use two different types of drivers? What do you hope to gain by doing that?
Members Crescent Seven
If you think you're midrange-heavy now, just wait until you play your new cab. Unless they make the chamber for the 10's enormous, you're not going to get the low end you're looking for IMO, especially with any sort of volume.C7

But, MANY people wind up in the middle of projects saying "Damned! If only I'd known! Well, how can I save it now..." In fact, I think this would describe the majority of hobbyist DIY'er projects. He's not a pro speaker cab builder. He's a hobbyist having fun with a different facet of the hobby. So, which is dumber, him jumping the gun because of an idea and a boatload of enthusiasm, or refusing to add anything substantial because he jumped the gun? FS, I don't have any help for you, but good luck. If anyone has the ability to help, these guys do. Just answer their questions, and try not to take their edge personnally.
