Newly Assembled Bass Day! Just got this assembled and set up. It's ugly, but it works. There are people here with actual skill who could modify or build their own attractive bass, but I'm not one of them. The best I can generally manage is turning the screwdriver the right way. Usually. Used parts I had laying around and made a few things, like the clear plastic pickguard and truss rod cover. When I bought the bass it was just a neck and body. FWIW, I'd stay away from a bolt on Ibanez "you know what" (that's what this began as) as the neck joint is weak. The neck is bolted to a very thin section of the body to make it look and feel more like a neck through, seems susceptible to abuse. Great if you like bending chords by wobbling the neck. I'm tuning it down a step to reduce tension, which also makes it easier to play since the action can't go any lower than "medium." The secret ingredient was the Babylon 5 1999 calendar, the only thing with a picture big enough to put under the pickguard.

Any body else got a horrible looking mongrel bass? Please don't post anything pretty, it'll make me feel bad.

That was the only way the pots, preamp board, battery, and jack would fit in the cavity. I'm not crazy about it either. I was originally going to use an EMG preamp with the board mounted on the pots, but the bass is too thin. As it was the legs of the jack are hitting the bottom of the electronics compartment. I wasn't about to start routing the cavity; I know enough to know what I shouldn't even consider attempting.
