So you are going to be living in Portland? What's your plan to survive without a job?

Yes, I expect to be living in Portland through the week, and visiting my wife on the weekends. I plan to survive via the federal government and the Trade Act, which provides assistance to people who have lost their jobs due to foreign competition. The Trade Act Assistance program will provide tuition, fees and money for books and required supplies, income assistance equal to my current unemployment benefits and subsistence assistance in lieu of daily commuting costs.

Have you prayed about it?

:lol:LOL!

Sorry, couldn't resist.
:p

Tha'ts cool dood.

Sounds like you're financially able to live for quite a while though. What are you planning on doing with the education?

I'm planning on getting a job taking care of medical equipment, such as MRIs and CT scanners and such. I expect that will be a growth industry for the next couple of decades.

Sucks to hear about the band tho.
:(

Yeah, well, {censored} happens. We weren't going anywhere quickly, anyway. It was pretty interesting being in a jam band, where I could play pretty much anything I felt like playing. I don't expect to be in that position again. Truth is, I'm more of a pop artist, anyway. Maybe I can find a band in Portland. :idk:

My best friend does exactly that working for Siemens (no one ever gets tired of making fun of him for the name) and he's rollin' in the dough. Close to a six figure salary actually and he's only been working with the company for a year.

Paid company car, doesn't go out if he isn't needed, 9-5 mon-fri and after that it's double time....lots of other perks.

Good luck on all that's to come.

Thanks, guys. Please forgive me for getting a bit philosophical on y'all.

It's been a rough year for me, though others have suffered far more. Still, I lost my job, I quit my band, and I just finished my last community theater production. It seems that all of my life over the past eleven years (when I moved here to Corvallis) has come to an end. This chapter is over.

I'm not sure if I'll be starting another chapter, or just an interlude, as I go to Portland Community College to study electrical engineering and biomedical technology. In any event, I'm sure it will be interesting!
