Members Anderson81
This weekend i will be the proud new owner of a MIM Standard Jazz bass (chrome red, wooohooo!!).First off, it's blatantly obvious to me that I should replace the bridge on this. I see a great deal of people putting badass bridges on them, but it seems alot of people have to do some filing to get the strings to sit right. Anyone have any experience with this?I'm also curious about going string-thru on it. I've generally avoided bolt on insturments for sustain reasons, would this help? Is there any drawback with converting it to string-thru? Any and all bridge suggestions are appreciated.
Members Death Hands
Neckthru sustain is a myth, if you ask me. String-thru as well. Get a Gotoh and be done.

Members Crescent Seven
I like the Badass bridges, and have two of them, but I don't think they're a good value, not after comparing them with other high-mass bridges. The Gotoh bridges are just as nice but they're half the price. Hell, the stock bridge on the MIM's isn't really THAT bad, it's the classic Fender design. I only noticed a minor difference in tone and sustain when I swapped out the bridges on my MIM Precision and my SX Jazz 5 with the Badasses. Certainly not as much as I thought I would get considering how much I spent on them.C7

I can honestly say that I've never had a sustain issue with any electric bass I've ever played - and out of around 30 basses, 2/3 of them have been Fender types - with their original bridges... For me, the original Fender bridge works just fine - with the addition of a spot of blue locktite on the saddle height screws... - georgestrings

If your stock bridge holds the strings, adjusts the intonation, and adjusts the string height properly then it will work fine. Modern musicians seem to forget that the best music ever recorded was played on stock instruments.

Members has-sound
First thing I did with my MIM is put on a Badass II, a set of my Split J pickups and a tort pickguard. Today I'm installing a stacked volume and one of my Bass Varitone controls. I will be putting on Schaller tuners next because I don't like the feel of the stock ones. How much time do you spend touching them? Badass and Barts on my H-1 Jazz now. It's better, but the bridge didn't make a massive difference IMHO. The pups were the better value of the two upgrades. Members countrybass
My MIA Delux J-5 is bone stock. Except the strings. I really don't think theres much need to change stuff.
Members chris-dax
y thing left stock on my mim jazz is the body and tuners... it's a great guitar which I have had many hours of enjoyment working on as well as gigging... I got the pups and guard used...I think my total, including initial guitar (which I bought used for $225) is around $
