....I love playing with my 80's band, we kicked some major ass tonight (for the third weekend in a row) at Jimmy Loves in downtown San Diego. Ive been in this band on-and-off for about 5 years and this is by far the best we have ever sounded/performed/got the crowd going.

Our first set is about 45 minutes long and pretty much a warm up with songs like We Got the Beat, Jessies Girl and What I Like About You. Pretty easy and we just try to get the crowd warmed up.

Second set is 1 hour long and this is where we turn up the heat with songs like Relax, Into the Groove/Holiday, Blue Monday/Bizare Love Triangle and Just Cant Get Enough. We opened with Relax and all of us are jumping around and the crowd was going nutz! The mayhem continued all the way till the last song. Oh, and by the way....the chicks were smokin hot!

Last set was maybe 35 minutes, we opened with Point of No Return/Keep Me Hanging On, completely full dance floor and again everyone was going nutz! So halfway through the set we play My Sherona and during the guitar solo I go back-to-back with the female vocalist, we slowly make our way to the ground (she was not expecting this, but hey, this is rock and roll!) and again the crowd goes nutz! We ended the night with Hearbreaker and no one has left the dancefloor.

Damned I love playing covers and having a full dance floor!

Sorry for the long post, but I just had to share the good mojo with my fellow hcbf'ers.

Im in a new band called CIRCUS which is designed similar to my old band of 5 years ago: a guitar-bass-drums trio that uses a sequencer...... We do "Point Of No Return" and (heres the funny part), I sing it :D (changing a few of the lyrics, of course)....We also do "Fascinated" by Company B and I sing that one also.....Yes, the 80s dance stuff is a goldmine for bands once they discover that secret

We also do a bunch of "booty music"/ stuff only DJs are generally privvy to. Its kinda cool that we are a band that covers "In Da Club" by 50 Cent and "Golddigger" by Kanye West. The band is fairly new but our debut gig was a few weeks ago and was by the city plus we had a ton of high paying Christrmas parties...Our booking schedule has picked up starting in late January as word has gotten out

But, yes, I understand your joy very well: Its nice to be able to pack a dancefloor from set 1 til the end of the night without ever having to play "Mustang Sally", "Brown Eyed Girl", "Brick House", or any other general cover band staple..................
