Members rpsands
I just had my second BJJ class this Friday. It was rough. I am fat and out of shape, and it just about ended me. Having another fat guy (my buddy) lay on top of me choking me with my own gi for what felt like an hour was rough -- doing hip escapes for half an hour, drilling triangles by myself on a yoga mat, drilling triangles, arm bars and kimuras with a partner, and rolling. Ugh. I'm going back, and taking Judo one night a week also, I think. So far, it's the most fun I've had working out. Now, my first class, nobody warned me about some things. So I'll share them with you so you can avoid repeating some of my horrible mistakes. 1) Do not eat greasy food the day you go to class. 2) Drink at least a gallon of water the day of class3) Take water with you to class4) Be very mindful of where and how you move the tops of your feet when you are in someone's guard. It is very, very easy to rip up the top of your foot in such a way that you won't be able to walk straight for days (or weeks in the case of my first time -- i rubbed the skin off the entire top of my foot, like a 3.5" by 4" space of skin). You will build up callouses, or so I am told, but being extra careful to get on your toes when you try to pass, and not skidding around on the tops of your feet will help You may write me thank you letters if you survive without any open sores. I almost threw up and couldn't walk faster than an 80 year old man for two weeks afterwards, and nearly passed out -- in my first class.
Members rpsands
It may also help you to pop a couple ibuprofen before you go to class.
